I was more than a bit concerned when I came into the fourth season of
The 4400. The concept of the extra crispys seemed like a desperation move for
The 4400. Formula tweaking. Would the original recipe be forgotten? Four episodes later, those concerns are just a distant memory as the show continues to dovetail these new elements into the classic overarching tale, heading for a new arch that can only be called apocalyptic both for the architecture of the show and the world it takes place in.

“The Truth and Nothing but The Truth” was an outstanding episode with some extremely unexpected twists. April reappeared with her new ability. Essentially any question she asked will be answered truthfully no matter how personally condemning it may be. She has hooked up with a grifter and is basically using her ability to blackmail white collar types, mostly adulterers.
Isabel (
Megalyn Echikunwoke) and Kyle are hard at work decoding the document, and it turns out to be a list of 200 people who must be injected with Promicin, and who should be on the list but Tom (
Joel Gretsch). Maybe it’s just me, but I can see this coming, we are looking at a plot that was created by some 4400 who got transported back in time. Since Alana’s portrait is newer than the documents, she may or may not be involved. Hard to tell.
Surprisingly, Diana (
Jacqueline McKenzie) and April are reunited quite early on when a blackmail ends in the murder of her grifting boyfriend. When they confront the mark he admits his payoff that they were cornering in was government hush money, but later turns out to be a down payment for a hit to cover up the sale of defective body armor.
April is afraid her Promicin enhancements will get her locked up, but in the end she winds up being hired by the government. So we may yet see more of her interesting ability later on down the road, unless Jordan Collier gets his hands on her.
It was surprising to see the April situation resolved so quickly, but it did add a satisfying new thread to the story and gave the good guys an interesting ability.
