'A Shot at Love' Spin-Off 'That's Amore' Premiere Date Announced
Friday, February 08, 2008

If it feels like ages since you've heard from Domenico Nesci, the breakout star from A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, that's because he's been busy filming his new series, That's Amore. But there won't be too much longer to wait.

Domenico, his sidekick Ashley McNeely, and the fifteen young American women vying to win the Italian's heart will be making their premiere soon enough; will Domenico have success with love on his own show since he did not on A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila?

The first episode of That's Amore is set to premiere on March 2 at 10pm Eastern, and the show will air on Wednesdays. At least, that's what MTV tells us on its website. Ashley seems to want to jump the gun, and says the show is premiering on February 24 and Domenico's MySpace says February 26. But MTV went to the trouble of putting together a preview with a graphic saying March 2, so that's what we're going with.

What does that preview promise? A kiddie pool filled with spaghetti in tomato sauce (too soon to know if it's marinara or Bolognese, but we will fill you in on these key details as the news breaks). A visit from the paramedics. Men in very tight swimming trunks. Domenico surrounded by women on a bed looking overwhelmed. A trip home to Italy. Possible hair-pulling, definite girl-fighting. Pretty much what you would expect from the A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila spin-off.

There is one slightly unusual twist: the end of the That's Amore preview shows Domenico, tearful, saying he's found love, but worrying that it might not be returned. With a previously-underdog type of guy as the lead of the show, will this be the way the show builds suspense?

Most dating shows depend on the concept that a) the star is universally-appealing and therefore an immediate object of love or lust from all the suitors and b) there will be two “equally” desirable suitors left for the finale so that is usually the way the show creates drama towards the end of the show. To have the main climactic mystery be not which girl he'll pick but if she's actually in this for him could actually be…interesting. We shall see when That's Amore premieres on March 2.
