MTV has a string of projects underway for the summer and fall seasons, including a half-hour scripted comedy series from
Wilmer Valderrama. Best known for his exchange student role as Fez on
That '70s Show, the 28-year-old actor has had a long-standing relationship with MTV as he created, executive produced and hosted the network's trash-talking competition program,
Yo Momma. Now, he will once again attempt to turn a pilot into a hit series with his new project called
Baby Dolls.
"Wilmer has done a great job for us in front of and behind the camera, and he came to Liz [Gateley] with a unique scripted idea into which he could provide unique insight," MTV programming head Tony DiSanto said of the actor from
That '70s Show.
"Our main goal is to always pull the rug out," DiSanto added. "If something is working great, we don't want to do it again, we want to do something new. Our viewers expect us to keep evolving, genre-busting and taking chances.
Told in a faux-documentary style,
Baby Dolls revolves around celebrity worship as told through the eyes of a naive and jaded personal assistant to a young actress. In addition to the
That '70s Show actor, also serving as executive producers are Chris Peterson, Bryan Moore, Ross Breitenbach and Danny Villa.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, also on MTV's slate are projects like
Teen Dream and an untitled 50 Cent series. The former is about the search for America's next female superstar with a twist: Their moms will be their managers, who might also cause their downfall in the competition. The latter, on the other hand, is a competitive reality series that follows 16 contestants as they compete to learn and master the skills that took 50 Cent from the streets into the limelight, as well as to corporate America.
