Kurtwood Smith as Red Forman on
That 70s Show
Kurtwood Larson Smith is an American character actor, known for numerous roles in film and television. Born on July 3, 1943 in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, he studied theater at San Jose State University and earned a drama fellowship from Stanford University’s Master of Fine Arts program. Kurtwood Smith moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, working on shows and movies such as Robocop, Star Trek, The X-Files, That 70’s Show, and most recently House MD. He’s also done a number of voice acting roles, such as for the videogame Fallout Tactics and the cartoon Squirrel Boy.
Reginald Albert Forman, a.k.a. Red, is played by Kurtwood Smith in the sitcom That 70’s Show. The father of Eric Forman and a World War II veteran, Red enlisted in the Navy and likes to boast about “driving a gunboat around Okinawa.” He treats his son Eric harshly for being a soft and skinny wimp, favoring his older daughter Laurie instead and often calling Eric and his friends “dumbasses.” Red likes to threaten that he’ll literally kick someone’s ass, especially those who offend him. Later on, though, it’s shown that he genuinely cares about Eric and just wants to toughen him up.
