Typically, I'm pessimistic about stuff like this. My balancing act between pessimism and optimism has long been a source of both annoyance and disappointment, with hopeless optimism leading to heartbreak and unnecessary pessimism annoying anyone who witnesses it. This duality is no more apparent than with the renewal of television shows. I can never just throw my hands in the air and say “I don't know if this series will be renewed. It's 50/50.” Instead, I either blindly assume a show will be canceled or blindly assume a show will be renewed. In the case of

Terminator's future.
This is great news.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was one of TV's greatest surprises of the past season. What most assumed would be a grand disappointment and a further blemish on a formerly great film franchise turned out to be a creative success. Perhaps the low expectations had something to do with that, but I'd like to believe it was a combination of the story-telling, inspired casting and FOX's insistence on doing
Terminator right by giving the series a formidable budget.
Terminator has always had a dense mythology, but the films only had a couple of hours to tell their stories.
Sarah Connor has been able to expand the mythology in new and interesting ways, while keeping the action and feel of the franchise intact.
