tell me that you love meHBO's Tell Me You Love Me, which premiered in September, has been getting some mixed reviews with its controversial storylines and extremely realistic depiction of sex.  But while that's stirring various media outlets, Michelle Borth has something to reveal about her character Jamie that's quite unexpected.

On Tell Me You Love Me, Borth plays a line cook who breaks off her engagement with the idealistic Hugo (Luke Farrell Kirby) because of her jealousy and her emotional issues.  According to the actress, her character has actually been written for her.

“Initially when I read the script, the issues Jamie has and the problems she goes through were parallel to things I had experienced in my personal life.  I kinda felt like there was someone following me around writing about my life,” Borth said.

Like her character, Borth reveals that in real life, she is also struggling with commitment issues.

“Her jealousy and the problems of fidelity were things that I'd experienced in my past relationships that ultimately damaged them and made me go through a whole emotional roller coaster – trying to find out what I really wanted and issues I needed to deal with within myself.  Similar to what Jamie's going through,” she said.

While playing Jamie would appear to be easy, given that they have a lot of similarities, Borth explains that it is actually difficult and quite painful to depict a part of herself.  She says that she has to deal with and relive all of the baggage in her life that she had to put away in the past.

“I had to open up that can of worms and re-live it for six months,” she said.  “I was kind of in a depressing place for awhile while shooting the show.  Jamie's not in a great place right now.  She's heartbroken and confused and trying to change.  That was hard for me because it was something I had already dealt with.  But it's all for the sake of art!”

Fans can catch a new episode of Tell Me You Love every Sunday at 9pm on HBO.
