'Teen Wolf': Do You Miss Jackson?

When news broke last year that Colton Haynes would not return for Teen Wolf season 3 as Jackson, I was devastated. After the season 2 finale, I couldn't wait to find out what happened to him. Was he still a Kanima? Just a werewolf? And, what did the blue eyes mean?

Teen Wolf is available on Amazon Prime.

With Haynes deciding not to return to the show, that meant these questions would remain outstanding. How could I go on not knowing the answers?!? Okay, it's not the end of the world, but I became anxious about Teen Wolf's return this season.

Haynes took Jackson from an arrogant, annoying teenage jock that was easy to hate and transformed him into the mysterious Kanima. Throughout season 2, Jackson's Kanima storyline was the undercurrent of the series.

After season 1, I didn't really care for Jackson and if he didn't return then it wouldn't have been such a big deal. In season 2, he became one of my favorite characters. Jackson's struggle to figure out what was happening to him humanized the teenager and brought him into the supernatural fold.

After months of knowing that Jackson would not be on Teen Wolf season 3, his absence was almost unnoticeable. Since I no longer expected answers to the Jackson cliffhangers, I didn't mind that he was only briefly mentioned by Lydia.

Where is Jackson? After being given werewolf training by Derek, he went to London. Why? It doesn't really matter, does it? The location provided Lydia the opportunity to say this hilarious line, "And seriously, an American werewolf in London? Like, that's not gonna be a disaster."

Will Jackson be missed? After the premiere, I have to say ... no. That surprises me, but the introduction of the Alpha Pack and Scott's mysterious future have me intrigued enough to not really care much about Jackson.

Would it be great to see him again in the future? Sure. Just because I didn't miss Jackson, doesn't mean I wouldn't love to see Haynes return to the show at some point and get answers to the questions about Jackson's transformation.

As much as I loved Haynes on Teen Wolf, his casting on Arrow as Roy Harper eased the pain  of his absence. I may have had a different view on Jackson had Haynes not joined Arrow. He's been a welcoming addition to that show and I'm looking forward to his transformation into a red-adorned hero.

Either way with the Kanima storyline finished, Teen Wolf needed a new threat and the Alpha Pack is going to be quite the formidable foe for Derek and Scott to face. And, Scott's enigmatic future just adds a potential divide between the two Beacon Hills werewolves.

When it was first announced that Haynes would not be returning to Teen Wolf, I never imagined that I would be okay with his absence, but that's what has happened. The new Alpha Pack storyline and Haynes' casting on Arrow have created a situation where I barely notice his absence. Plus, Lydia's free to be with Stiles now! Well, if she can get over her "fresh" man loving ways.

Did you miss Colton Hayes' Jackson? Are you sad he's not returning to the show? Or, are you happy with the new storylines? Does his role as Roy Harper help ease the pain?

Teen Wolf airs Mondays at 10 pm ET on MTV.
