Before The CW's newest show, Arrow, premieres on Wednesday, October 10, it's good to get a little sneak peek from the actors involved with the show. BuddyTV had the chance to talk to several members of the Arrow cast (thanks to a set visit sponsored by Warner Bros.). Check out what they had to say about the show and its characters right here!
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
cast members Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/ The Arrow), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance), Colin Donnell (Tommy Merlyn), Susanna Thompson (Moira Queen) and Willa Holland (Thea Queen) were all available for interviews during the set visit. And each of them had a lot to say...Stephen Amell -- Oliver Queen, aka The Arrow
Stephen Amell plays Oliver Queen, a rich boy who returns to civilization after five years marooned on a remote island. Now that he's back, Oliver dispenses vigilante justice as the mysterious Arrow. What kind of a vigilante hero is The Arrow?SA:
He bends toward justice. And he just understands, along the way, that there can be collateral damage.
There's a Deadline article that said, you know, "CW superhero targets the rich demographic." And thus I'm a liberal... The idea that he's going after the rich is a big misnomer. He's going after people that are not being responsible with power... More often than not, we're dealing with wealthy people. But the idea that he's simply targeting someone because of their bank statement is false. What is Oliver Queen like as a hero?SA:
I've seen the word "brooding" a lot, and I've sort of seen "no smiles," and this and that and the other thing... I was trying to put humor in whenever I could! Will Stephen Amell be doing his own fighting and stunts?SA:
For the fight training, it's all been James Banford. I learned the basics and then he sort of walks me through the fight... Unfortunately there are instances where I don't get enough time to prep. In which case, Simon Burnett -- who is my very, very, very capable stunt double -- will do the lion's share of the work. Not because I can't. But just because of logistics and because of safety. What has it been like, waiting for Arrow to premiere?SA:
I'm doing great. My friends are sending me billboards from Los Angeles all the time, and it's just sort of ramping up. I still cannot fathom that people will actually watch it. Which is not to say that people won't. I think that they will. But the concept of this show actually being on television...Katie Cassidy -- Laurel Lance
Oliver's one-time girlfriend, Laurel Lance is a lawyer working to bring justice to the little people. She has a few issues with Oliver Queen when the series begins. What is Laurel like?KC:
I know that Laurel is very strong, very tough. She comes from a middle-class family. Her father's a cop. She knows how to fight.
Everything she believes in, the Arrow contradicts. But at the same time, he's trying to do the same thing she is, just in a different way... I think she is smart... She's become an attorney -- she stands for the law. What are the emotions between Laurel and Oliver?KC:
I think they grew up together, and they were friends first in grade school... I think it was just an innocent friendship that developed into -- obviously something with Oliver, something far more passionate. And it developed into a strong relationship. They share a lot together. And again, I think deep down she knows he has a big heart. Colin Donnell -- Tommy Merlyn
Tommy Merlyn is Oliver's best friend from back in the partying days. Will they still be friends now that Oliver is an avenging vigilante? What is Tommy like?CD:
There's a lot of staring at cleavage. There's some of that. There's some snide comments here and there. There's a lot of talking about all the money I have. Yeah, Tommy is kind of a douche at times. Will the friendship between Oliver and Tommy survive?CD:
I think that [Oliver] comes back with so many secrets, and Tommy definitely recognizes that. But I think Tommy also wants to believe that his best friend is back, and he just wants to pick up where the good times left off. And he's just so happy to have his best friend in the entire world back home.
But I think Tommy sees a huge change in his friend, and there are little hints of him maybe seeing that other side of Oliver that Oliver desperately needs to hide.Susanna Thompson -- Moira Queen
Oliver's mother, Moira, had to carry on when she lost both her son and her husband five years earlier. Her choices since then are interesting.Who is Moira?ST:
I think she's an incredibly ingenious and strong character. And also very human in many ways. And vulnerable in a lot of ways as well... There's more than meets the eye by the end of the pilot, and it just keeps growing. How does she adjust to the return of Oliver from the dead?ST:
I know that Moira, as well as most of his community, want him to get used to and come back to his old life as quickly as possible. But there is, so far, these awakenings in Moira as well as that she needs to be realistic about this.Willa Holland -- Thea Queen
Thea, the younger sister of Oliver Queen, is a 17-year-old girl with secrets of her own. What is Thea like?WH:
She is definitely a strong, strong character and a strong girl that's just been misled the last couple of years and not had a proper guidance or anyone to really look up to... It's been a really harsh struggle for the last five or six years for her. I mean, losing her father, losing her brother -- and then her brother coming back. And then also her brother coming back not quite approving of the way she's acting now, because she thought she was living in his footsteps. How has the wait for the premiere been?WH:
It's a little nerve-wracking, showing the show to everybody. It's been our baby for the last three months, and I haven't been able to tell anybody anything, really, about it... I'm just kind of excited for everyone, and I hope they have the similar reaction that I've had for every script.Arrow
