For the last 10 years now, my friends have affectionately referred to me as Velma (from
Scooby Doo). I never minded it since secretly, I want to be part of
Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Scooby gang. I guess my short hair and glasses remind them of the 1960s cartoon character. Oh yeah, and I love a good mystery. Tonight, a commercial for the new season of
Survivor, sometimes referred to as Fans vs. Favorites, sometimes referred to as Micronesia, came on. Someone turned to me and said, "Where the hell is Micronesia?" Ooh, a mystery! Jinkies! What I uncovered is that
Survivor producer Mark Burnett used a fancy little name to cover up the fact that, for this season, he returned to a place he's already filmed in.

I'm on it, Oscar. That's a good point about Probst. What if one day, nature catches up with him and sudde...
Time for a geography lesson, bear with me. You can whip out this knowledge later, when watching the new season of
Survivor with your friends, and sound intelligent and worldly. You can thank me later.
Micronesia, meaning "small islands", is not a country but a group of islands in the North Pacific Ocean. If you're wondering about exactly where they are, it's about three quarters of the way from Hawaii to Indonesia. Micronesia is divided up into eight different territories, including Guam and Palau. Wait, Palau? If that place sounds familiar, it's because Survivor shot it's tenth season there. Yes folks, Burnett has returned to familiar territory, filming this season in Palau and disguising it by calling it
Survivor: Micronesia. And he would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling BuddyTV writers!
Is it a coincidence that no former
Survivor: Palau players were chosen for this new season? It proably would have been an unfair advantage to invite players back on their home turf. Though no former winners were chosen to participate in Micronesia, it would have been nice to see
Tom Westman among the batch of favorites. If not, we would have happily settled for
Ian Rosenberger or
Coby Archa. Oh, that's right. According to
Coby's interview with BuddyTV, he was supposed to go to Micronesia, but was left home by Burnett at the last minute. Ooh, another mystery!

Tell the truth. Had you ever heard of Micronesia before this season of Survivor?
