Exclusive Interview: Armchair Survivor's Michael and Marjorie Carrino (Part 4)
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4
Were there any underrated or overlooked moments that turned out to be significant in the season's outcome? Marjorie: I think that Becky and Sundra didn't get as much credit as they deserved. Everyone was focusing on Yul and Ozzy and the incredible performers they were and what awesome athletes they were, but, when you look at the challenges, it wasn't as though Yul or Ozzy gave these great leads or caught everyone up in the end. You could kind of see it when got down to that final challenge. Sundra held her own standing on that pole next to Ozzy and I don't think they were given quite as much credit for their talent. They weren't vocal people, but i think they played a big piece in the game. Michael: See, I disagree with you on that. I actually think that they did get their credit. It was called the fire challenge. It was the most memorable challenge they've had in Survivor. I was really surprised and pleased how Sundra did on that pole. She seemed to go into a trance and she became almost one with the pole, which even Ozzy wasn't able to do, although he did win. I do think, though, that they did enjoy some coattail riding. I do think Becky was some of the mastermind behind that and I sincerely think (and this may be just one consultant rooting for another consultant), but I think that if she would've gone in there with her pushy lawyer way and not been subdued by Yul, that she would've had less of a chance of going as far as she did, because she would've pissed people off. On the other hand, I do think that Yul, and this is something that one of our blog people said, had "analysis paralysis" (I didn't make that one up, someone else did; I'll have to give credit where I can find it). Yul had analysis paralysis, so sometimes he would analyze things to the point where I think he needed to get off of the go button. Becky did push that, but I do think it was mostly Yul and Ozzy who did the work. I think Becky and Sundra are good, decent people, and I don't hold anything against them and I didn't talk badly about them in the podcasts. I do think the fire thing at the end was apropos, because they did get to the final four. I don't think they could've gotten there without the other two and without the Aitu four alliance. Were you surprised by the results of the final jury vote? Michael: No, actually quite pleased with it. Marjorie: I thought that it would be close. I'm glad Becky didn't get any votes, because of the fire thing. I'm surprised that Adam voted for Yul over Ozzy. This was the one where I'm glad it was as close as it was, because they were both awesome players and it kind of rewarded both pieces of it. Yul's the mastermind and he had the immunity idol, so he got the million. Michael: If I could be half as athletic as Ozzy, on a bad day, I wouldn't complain. Do you guys know anything about the upcoming Survivor: Fiji? Michael: Only what we saw on the previews. Marjorie: 19 players, everything from an Ivy Leaguer to someone who was homeless. One tribe will get comforts and the other tribe will get nothing and there are two immunity idols hidden on Exile Island Michael: We've speculated a few things. First of all, they're talking about 19 players and they made that seem like some big deal. The only thing I can think of that'd make that a big deal is that the tribes would be uneven at first, or they'll send someone home immediately. When they started talking about the race thing on Survivor, we came up with a whole bunch of other possible ideas: the straights and the gays, people who are physically challenged and those who aren't. One of the things we came up with was the poor and the rich and it sounds as though they might be actually doing something like that. I was kind of hoping there would be some kind of an anarchy aspect, where they would either put the poor people who are normally poor into the rich house or they would set it up so that whoever wins gets to be in the nice camp. Then the people who aren't in the nice camp are allowed to come and attack the nice camp, kind of like they did in Lord of the Flies. You can come in and pillage. Thanks for stopping by, guys.
