There are some people who come to
Survivor because they are strong, physical competitors. There are some who come because they are fans of the show and want to live out their dream of being part of it all. There are others who go there to find themselves, to make friends, to experience something different, and so on. Then, there are those players who go on Survivor for fame. Crystal and
Sugar were two of those contestants this season on
Survivor: Gabon. In both of their interviews, they said that they were hoping to make it big in Hollywood now that the show is over. Crystal is a newcomer to the entertainment business, while Sugar has been working in it for years. In her exclusive interview with BuddyTV, which she did the morning after the finale,
Sugar opens up about her future in television, her thoughts on Corinne, and her remorse (or lack thereof) over laughing at Randy and his fake idol.
Tell me what made you want to try out for Survivor in the first place.
I was actually recruited. I was a recruit.
Were you nervous at all about going into this situation?
Yeah, actually, I was scared about the challenges and roughing it.
Well, you looked so beautiful at the finale and I was thinking, you must be someone who loves doing your hair and makeup. Was it hard to be out there with nothing to primp at all?
Yeah, that kind of sucks. I'm an actor, I've been in SAG for 10 years. I was like, "Great, the one thing everybody's gonna see me on, I have absolutely no makeup and they're gonna show the worst lights of me." Towards the end, we got that face paint so I kind of like, threw together some fake makeup.
Who did you end up really liking and bonding with this season? I know you had differences with people but did you form friendships with people as well?
Yeah, I talk to everybody except for GC or Michelle. I actually talk to Gillian and I was never on a team with her. Obviously, I don't talk to Corinne or Randy. I don't really talk to Marcus but I talk to Charlie, Kelly, Kenny, Crystal, Bob, Susie, Jacquie, Ace, Matty... the people that I talk to the most are Ace and Jacquie and Matty and Crystal.
Did you and Ace get a chance to talk after the show and you were able to explain that you didn't know that he wasn't against you?
Yes, Ace and I are fine. Ace and I took a road trip together. He drove me from Louisiana to California and we jumped out of a plane in Texas together so he and I are definitely okay.
When Corinne spoke at last night's tribal council, my mouth literally hit the floor. What was your initial reaction when she said what she did to you?
Well, I think you saw, I flipped her off. I was pretty speechless. I couldn't believe anybody was so heartless but she'll get it one day when something like that happens to her.
They're all saying that you were edited so favorably. Do you believe that that's true? Are there things that we didn't see about you that were maybe not so favorable?
No, I think I understand what they meant when I cut the bags to make my outfit. We all were given a bag. I did make two outfits but people were already gone by then and didn't take their bags. I don't know what is with Charlie being upset about being voted off right before the interviews that he gave. People, once they see themselves get voted off, they get pissed off again like it just happened. You know what? I just love my edit and I don't care what they say. They're just Bitter Bettys.
Do you have any regrets about laughing at Randy with the fake idol?
First of, I gotta say, Crystal had me already going and you know what it's like when you get the giggles. Somebody already set me off. Everybody was laughing when Crystal did that and I definitely took it overboard because I couldn't help it. I think if she hadn't been hilarious right beforehand, I could've probably kept it together a little better.
Well, I thought you really played a great game this season. Were you surprised that you didn't get any votes in the final tribal council?
Yeah, actually, they don't see everything that happens but a lot of the things that happened were at tribal. I was surprised that I didn't get at least a vote for, "Hey, she actually was doing something and we all got duped." They were all just pissed off at that point. The people that might have actually voted for me... they were friends and I just stabbed them all in the back, one right after the other. I was never expecting to be anything other than third place but it would've been nice to see a vote.
What's the goal for you now, Sugar? Do you want to keep acting?
Yeah, I just moved back to Los Angeles two months ago and I actually got the best contract in 17 seasons of Survivor so I could go back on television in January.
