Parenthood gets a different treatment as Christopher Meloni, who is most famous for his role as NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler on NBC's Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, steps up to become a stay-at-home dad in the new comedy Surviving Jack. The series revolves around Meloni's character Jack Dunlevy, an oncologist and former military man, who attempts to raise his children with unconventional methods and "with the least gentle hand possible" while taking viewers on a trip down memory lane at a time when MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice were still the talk of the town.
Set in the early 1990s, Surviving Jack also puts the spotlight on Jack's teenage children, Frankie and Rachel, as they try to withstand their dad, who is blunt, unpredictable and doesn't sugar-coat the truth. Surviving their father, however, is easier said than done especially at a time when there's no Internet.
Frankie, played by Connor Buckley, is a high school freshman who often finds himself in awkward and embarrassing situations no thanks to his lack of confidence and self-deprecating attitude. On the other hand, Rachel, played by Claudia Lee, has transformed herself from goody two-shoes to rebel now that she's no longer under the watchful eye of her mother Joanne, portrayed by Rachel Harris, who has left Jack in charge of parenting as she tries to concentrate on law school.
Jack's responsibilities doesn't end with his family as he is also keeping tabs on Frankie's best friends, George (Kevin Hernandez) and Mikey (Tyler Foden). Both characters are expected to bring in their fair share of trouble and humor as they go on misadventures with Frankie.
Surviving Jack premieres Thursday March 27 at 9:30pm on FOX.
