Would you name your daughter after the psychic waitress from
True Blood? Would you name your son after the trenchcoat-wearing angel on
Supernatural? If so, you're not alone.
According to
Namipedia,
Sookie and Castiel are the two hottest growing baby names for 2010.
While the most popular names remain staples like Charlotte and Oliver,
there's an interesting trend with the rising popularity of babies named
after TV characters and stars.
For girls, the five fastest-growing names are:
Sookie (Anna Paquin's character on
True Blood)
Tenley (the runner-up on the latest season of
The Bachelor)
Eloise (Daniel Faraday's mother on
Lost)
Genevieve (Genevieve Cortese is an actress who recently married
Supernatural's Jared Padalecki and is currently on ABC's
FlashForward)
Piper (one of the witches from
Charmed)
For boys, the list is:
Castiel (Misha Collins' angel from
Supernatural)
Declan (one of the guys from
Kyle XY)
Atreyu (one of the main characters in
The Neverending Story)
Dashiell (perhaps a resurgence for author Dashiell Hammett's detective novels)
Phineas (from the Disney cartoon
Phineas and Ferb)
So which TV characters make the best baby names? The popularity of Glee could mean a large bump for names like Finn and Sue, while the perfect unisex name might be Cameron (either from
Modern Family for a boy or the beautiful cyborg from
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for a girl). Or if you want your children to grow up to be good-looking vampires, Damon and Stefan might be the right choice from
The Vampire Diaries.
Those are just a few of ideas, but what do you think? Let us know which TV character name you would use to name your baby!
