season 8 finale is almost here, and there are two big questions to
answer. Will Sam close the Gates of Hell forever and will Castiel close
the Gates of Heaven? Locking up the two worlds above and below is a big
deal, but there are still quite a few hoops to jump through.

In this scene from the hauntingly titled season 8 finale "Sacrifice," Sam and Dean meet up with Crowley, the King of Hell, to make a deal. They'll swap the Demon Tablet for the Angel Tablet and agree not to continue the trials to close the Gates of Hell provided Crowley stops killing all the people they've saved.
Come on, Supernatural, I'm not buying it. Sam and Dean have been burned way too many times making deals, so this screams set-up, especially since the preview for the episode shows the brothers trying to cure Crowley of his demon-ness to complete the third trial. Still, comically long contracts are always funny.
The real question is: What horrible thing will happen to end season 8? As much as Sam and Dean like to save the world, they have a pretty lousy track record when it comes to ending the season. Let's look back at how past years have ended for them:
Season 1: Sam, Dean and John are in a horrific car crash that results in John's death.
Season 2: Sam is killed and Dean makes a deal to sacrifice his soul to bring him back. The Devil's Gate is opened.
Season 3: Dean's time is up and he's dragged to Hell.
Season 4: Sam breaks the final seal and Lucifer begins to rise.
Season 5: Sam sacrifices himself by jumping into the cage to trap Michael and Lucifer.
Season 6: The door to Purgatory is opened and Cas becomes an all-powerful god.
Season 7: Dean gets trapped in Purgatory with Cas.
See, even when they save the world, things ends badly for at least one of the brothers. On the bright side, we know the show is coming back as the CW has already renewed it for season 9, and we also know Misha Collins will return as a series regular, so Cas is safe too.
season 8 finale airs Wednesday at 9pm on the CW.
