It's been a long summer for Supernatural fans and a long year for Sam and Dean, but the wait is almost over. The show returns Wednesday, October 3 at 9pm on the CW, and now we have our first full clip from the premiere.

It shows Sam and Dean's reunion after spending a year apart, and, like all reunions, it requires a few rituals to make sure they're not demons or Leviathans or shapeshifters or any of the millions of other things they could be.



Dean is very guarded about what happened in Purgatory and how he escaped, but the real news is about Castiel.

"Cas didn't make it," Dean says.

"What exactly does that mean?" asks Sam  (and us). Dean's answer isn't completely satisfying, but it promises to make for a very interesting story. Whatever happened, it wasn't good.
