All season on
Supernatural, there's been something off about
Castiel. Fans assumed it was just the struggles of fighting a war in
Heaven against Raphael, but in reality, the angel has been dealing with
far more difficult things. We learned the truth at the end of "Mommy
Dearest" when it was revealed that Cas is secretly working with Crowley,
the King of Hell.
But why? What is Castiel's reason for teaming up with the enemy? This week's episode, "The Man Who Would Be King," will tell that story in great detail.
Watch a Clip from This Episode >>In this preview with showrunner Sera Gamble, she explains that Cas is going to tell his story from the beginning, by which I mean the beginning of time itself. That's right, from the Big Bang to the present, this episode will offer Castiel's side of the story, trying to defend working with Crowley.
The episode is written and directed by Ben Edlund, marking his first time directing an episode of Supernatural and only his second time directing overall. His first was the unbelievably brilliant puppet episode of
Angel, "Smile Time," so if this is anything close to that level of brilliance, fans can expect one heck of an episode.
Supernatural airs Fridays at 9pm on the CW.
