She is the daughter of 70s pop idol David Cassidy and former model Sherry Benedon, though the relationship between her parents was periodically off and on, and they never got married. Katie is also the granddaughter of actors Jack Cassidy and Evelyn Ward. She was raised in Calabasas, California by her stepfather Richard Benedon, along with two half-sisters named Jamie and Jenna. She became interested in gymnastics when she was younger, and eventually joined the California Flyers as a competitive cheerleader. Among the television productions she has acted in are 7th Heaven and Sex, Love & Secrets.

Ruby is portrayed by Katie Cassidy in the CW paranormal drama television series Supernatural. She is an enigmatic figure who hunts demons like the brothers Dean and Sam Winchester. However, her methods are much more ruthless and brutal. Ruby is also sexy and attractive, though her gorgeous appearance belies her deadly skills.
