The CW is becoming a network known for its many supernatural/fantasy shows and now it's adding another one to the list. This time the network is taking on the story of Alice in Wonderland
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
With shows like Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, and the season's new series Beauty and the Beast and Arrow, adding another show set in an alternate reality sounds like it could work for them.
A contemporary version
The Hollywood Reporter
reports that a script has already been commissioned for the project, which is titled Wunderland
. The new series is being described as a contemporary version of Alice in Wonderland
, and will center on a young female detective in present-day Los Angeles who discovers another world that exists under the surface of this ultra-modern city.
Wunderland is already off to a pretty good start, with a few recognizable names already attached to the project. The show will be written and executive produced by The Playboy Club's Chad Hodge, with McG (Gossip Girl) and Peter Johnson also attached as executive producers.
McG on board as an executive producer
Knowing that McG is attached the project, I'm pretty hopeful that it could turn out to be another great series for the network. I've seen the previews for both Arrow and Beauty and the Beast and I'm obsessed with Supernatural. I'll admit to not having seen a lot of The Vampire Diaries but I know that's a strong show for the network. The CW has proven that they can take on this kind of subject matter and do pretty well with it.
At this point, I think a lot of the show's future will depend on casting. If you don't have the right 'Alice,' then it could end up being a disaster. Alice is a strong character and if she's going to be set in modern-day Los Angeles as a detective, she'll need to be even stronger. At the same time, Alice had some vulnerability and a sense of wonder about her that I hope will be in this version.
What do you think of the CW's plans to take on the story of Alice in Wonderland? Are you planning on checking out Wunderland when it eventually makes it to your TV screen or are you waiting until there's at least a pilot before making judgements?
