Stylista: Episode 4 "Shop It Like It's Hot" Recap
Stylista: Episode 4 "Shop It Like It's Hot" Recap
Tonight on Stylista, the contestants hit the Henri Bendel boutique to shop for an outfit for Anne Slowey to wear on her last-minute trip. For their editorial task, the group breaks up into teams to design and direct a photo shoot featuring an outfit designed by Tory Burch, who will help Anne and Joe Zee select the winners. Tory appears on the show as a guest judge and helps Anne and Joe decide which team made her outfit look the best on the page.  And, as always, there will be huge, huge, huge fights between the contestants.  Honestly, the fights are really why I love Stylista so!

Right off the bat, the episode starts with a huge outburst from Ashlie, who bursts into hysterical tears at Cologne's elimination. She thinks that Kate should have gone instead. Oh, the dramatics!

For the assistant task today, Anne asks the fashion wannabes to put together a weekend bag with an outfit for her to wear for her last-minute casual work event at the Hamptons. As usual, the winner of this task gets to choose the teams for the editorial task, but there's added pressure this time around because there will be not one but two eliminations this week.

Devin wins the assistant task, but she doesn't get to choose until the next day, which means that the atmosphere in the loft that night is ridiculously tense. Megan and Dyshaun tell her to her face that she has absolutely no professional experience, being only 19 and still in college. Megan and Dyshaun come off as such big bullies.

The editorial challenge is to create a two-page intro for a Tory Burch fashion spread, supervising the photo shoot, coming up with an appropriate theme and a captivating title for the spread. Devin chooses the teams.

Team 1 is made up of Ashlie, Kate, Danielle and Megan. This team rocks because everyone hates everyone else. As William says, “It's crazy, but so wonderful at the same time.”

Of course, that means that Dyshaun, Johanna, William and Devin are Team 2.

They spend the day getting to know Tory Burch's style and to come up with their theme. Everyone on Kate's team starts out talking about minimalism, but of course, Kate hates that idea. Danielle wants to make sure that Kate gets her input heard by the rest of the team because she's afraid that Kate will throw her teammates under the bus come elimination time. The discussion continues over dinner at the loft, which escalates into a fight, and even Danielle looks like she's about to throw down. In probably the best fight scene ever on CW reality, Kate makes a dig at Danielle's background in retail, and then the whole room erupts in fightin' words.

Kate's on the verge of quitting Stylista, but luckily, a quick phone call with her mom convinces her to stay.

The next day, they all show up to the Brooklyn studio for the photo shoot. The teams scour the prop houses to dress the set. Devin's team's theme will have the model playing a socialite trying to escape from all the glitz and glamour of high society. Their main props are headless white mannequins.

The other team wants a retro theme for their shoot, so they gather some props, including an old TV set that Kate loves. They want their model to play the role of a bored ‘60s housewife drinking martini. Megan is Ms. Negative throughout the entire process.  During the photo shoot, Kate gets on everyone's last nerve by criticizing all of their ideas, and Megan sulks in the corner.

Tory Burch joins Anne Slowey and Joe Zee in the boardroom for this week's presentation. There's a lot on the line here because two stylistas will be eliminated tonight.

Team 1's theme is “Retro Revival,” and Team 2's theme is “Gossip Girl.” Kate's team members, sans Megan, give her credit for coming up with the retro concept. The judges are generally positive about their spread, but Kate points out, extremely unprofessionally, if you ask me, that Megan walked away from the photo shoot, which earns Megan a talking-to from Joe Zee.  Honestly, would you really want someone to work for you who constantly backstabs her colleagues? This comment applies to both Megan and Kate.

Team 2's presentation, whose theme is "Gossip Girl," gets mixed reviews. None of the judges likes the headless mannequins and their concept is a bit esoteric for the average Elle reader. However, the judges like the reference to Gossip Girl. Anne also notices that Devin didn't contribute very much.

The judges deliberate, and then both teams are called into Anne's office. Team 1 wins the challenge, and all four of them have earned one more week at Elle. Team 2 is on the chopping block. Johanna is safe. So is Dyshaun. Uh oh, that means that both Devin and William have been fired. Neither of them has show much personal contributions to their projects, so they must pack up their desks and take the long elevator ride right out of Elle.
