Canadian actress Amanda Tapping was born in Essex, England on August 28, 1965. Her family moved to Ontario when she was three years old. She studied at North Toronto Collegiate Institute, and then moved on to the University of Windsor School of Dramatic Arts. She initially appeared in commercials and stage productions, and then had television stints such as The Outer Limits and The X-Files. She is married to Alan Kovacs, and they have a daughter named Olivia.

 

Lt. Col. Samantha Carter is played by Amanda Tapping on the Sci-Fi Channel original series Stargate SG-1. Promoted all the way to her present rank, Carter is a Stargate technology specialist on the top of her game.
