Unlike viewers of other television shows, most of which have been disrupted by the ongoing writers' strike, fans of
Stargate Atlantis have a lot of things to look forward to.
First off, there's the upcoming annual convention, Gatecon. Although the event will not be taking place until August of next year, fans will be delighted to know that series stars Andee Frizzell, Gary Jones and Dan Payne are appearing as special guests at the convention, along with
Richard Dean Anderson,
Corin Nemec and Cliff Simon, all three of whom have appeared on
Stargate Atlantis' parent series,
Stargate SG-1.
The convention, which will take place from August 21 to 24 at the Sheraton Wall Center at Vancouver, British Columbia, will donate all proceeds from its charity fund-raising activities to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an organization that aims to protect the world's oceans and ecosystems. As a result, the second day of the convention will feature a number of Sea Shepherd activities with Anderson and Captain Paul Watson.
Tickets for the convention can be acquired online beginning the end of November.
Another thing that
Stargate Atlantis fans can look forward to is the return of
Paul McGillion, better known as Dr. Carson Beckett on the show. The 38-year-old actor is appearing on the show's upcoming two-parter, “The Kindred,” and he assures that his return will not be in the form of mere cameos.
Of his brief
Stargate Atlantis comeback, McGillion told GateWorld, "It was great to be back. It was just like going back home. The crew were so terrific to me and ingratiating, all the producers and the cast. It was great to be back. There's really some very meaty stuff for Beckett. I think, especially the Save Carson Beckett campaign fans, will be really pleased with what the outcome is. It was so great to be back."
McGillion's episodes are expected to air February next year.
One more thing that fans can rejoice about is the recent renewal of
Stargate Atlantis. Last month, the SCI-FI Channel ordered 20 episodes for the show's fifth season, with executive vice president of original programming for the network stating that the show “truly came out from under the shadow of its sister series this year and proved that it's a hit in its own right.”
