After its season 5 debut on July 11, Sci Fi has announced that Stargate Atlantis will run through the fall, until a brand new series starring a Stargate Atlantis star enters the picture.

Starting August 15, Stargate Atlantis fans can catch repeats of the science fiction program from 9 to 10pm, then a new episode at 10pm.  This will then change on October 3, when Sanctuary runs its two-hour premiere.  And the week following that, serving as the lead-in to Sanctuary, original Atlantis episodes will be moved an hour to the 9pm timeslot to make room for the regular run of Sanctuary at 10pm.

Starring Amanda Tapping, Sanctuary is a fantasy video series distributed online and was picked up by the Sci Fi channel for 13 episodes early this year.  Tapping plays the role of Dr. Helen Magnus as she seeks out monstrous creatures.

Furthermore, Sci Fi has also confirmed that it will run its annual six-hour Ghost Hunters Live event on Friday, October 31 at 7pm. T his special feature will preempt both Sanctuary and Atlantis that day.

The follow up to Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis is similar in theme to Star Trek.  It is based on the belief of the existence of Stargates that allow time and space travel through wormholes.  It picks up where Stargate SG-1 left off in its last episode that saw the discovery of an outpost created by the race known as the Ancients in Antarctica.  They also discover the greatest city created by the race, Atlantis.  Located in the Pegasus Galaxy, the team then faces a potentially one-way trip as they have to face strange, new cultures and a brand new enemy in the Wraith.

Atlantis stars Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett, Amanda Tapping, Rachel Luttrell, Jason Momoa, Robert Picardo, and Jewel Staite, among others.
