Going into the Sons of Anarchy season 3 finale, things are looking up. Jax and Tara are together and expecting a baby, Opie is engaged and Gemma is a free woman after Agent Stahl murdered her partner and gave a false statement. The only ball left in the air is Jax's deal with Stahl.

Jax agreed to give up the IRA and Jimmy O'Phelan in exchange for a lighter prison sentence for the Sons, but with the gang hoping to strike up a deal with the IRA, Jax is forced to pick a side. Does he stay a rat and risk his own life to save his friends and family, or does he stay loyal to the Sons of Anarchy?

The finale brilliantly answers that question and provides the perfect ending to an uneven season. While season 2 was flawless, season 3 has had some hiccups along the way, but it goes out on a very strong note with the season's best episode. The storyline is wrapped up and there's major bloodshed.

Everything hinges on the episode's title, "NS," the letters on Jax's ring, half of a set that is completed by his father John Teller's ring that said "SO," spelling out the name of the gang. The Irish adventure of season 3 provided great insight into John's past, mostly surrounding the fact that he never wanted this life for Jax. In the season 3 finale, Jax is left with that simple choice: honor his father's wishes or abandon his father's wishes.

Without revealing exactly how it ends, it's clear that Sons of Anarchy will need to take a considerable leap forward in time at the start of season 4. After the huge revelations that some characters discover, there should be plenty of drama to keep the show going strong.
