Last week was more fun.
After losing none of the dancers after the first week of competition, the judges had to pick four SYTYCD contestants for elimination in week 2. As it turned out, the unlucky four were Iveta Lukosiute, Nick Young, Missy Morelli and Wadi Jones. Three of the eliminated dancers talked to reporters on Friday morning about the judges' choices, being on the show and future plans.
Whatever you may think of the eliminations (
How could they cut Nick?!?!), the dancers themselves have just as many opinions. Wadi, Nick and Iveta shared those opinions after their eliminations. Check out what they said below!
On whether they were surprised with their week 2 eliminations:Wadi Jones: "I wasn't anticipating anything, really... I went in with the mindset that whatever happens is meant to happen."
Iveta Lukosiute: "I was surprised, because I thought the show was about versatility and showing different styles... In the first elimination, they got rid of all these different styles."
Nick Young: "I think it was kind of ironic that the bottom three this week was totally different from the bottom three last week... I'm a little disappointed -- I definitely thought I was going to get a little farther."
On how they felt now about the decision to eliminate no one in week 1:Nick Young: "It's hard, looking back on it... The bottom three could have been different this week if they cut someone last week... Unfair wouldn't be the word... but I'm definitely a little upset about it now."
Wadi Jones: "It made it slightly more fair, because America got the opportunity to know everyone... Apparently, everything happened the way it should have happened, and you can't take anything back."
Iveta Lukosiute: "I thought it was nice that they didn't eliminate anyone the first week."
On whether you need to be a contemporary dancer to do well:Wadi Jones: "No, I don't think so. I think everyone brings something special."
Iveta Lukosiute: "It's about your personality. It's about how you connect with people, to the audience."
On their most difficult dance styles:Wadi Jones: "Obviously, the cha-cha was really hard for me... B-boys are all laid back and don't think about structure so much."
Nick Young: "Bollywood was really, really difficult... It's definitely hard to keep your stamina up the whole time."
On dancing in familiar and unfamiliar styles:Nick Young: "I think it would be really cool and unique if they could have a week before they eliminate anyone where everyone dances out of their styles... It is hard to get eliminated in a week where people were dancing in their own styles."
Wadi Jones: "There are a few couples who still haven't danced in a genre that isn't theirs."
Iveta Lukosiute: "The show wouldn't be as good if everybody in one day didn't dance in their style... [But] Some of the couples never danced outside of their comfort zone."
On their favorite choreographers:Wadi Jones: "I can't pick a favorite... They all had something inspiring to say that had more to do with life than with dance."
Nick Jones: "If I had to pick one, I loved working with Sonya... Either her or Tyce."
Iveta Lukosiute: "I learned so much from how much passion they put into their work, how much they get done in such a short time."
On what they think about while dancing:Wadi Jones: "When I'm backstage, I'm not thinking about Nigel or Mary or whoever the guest judge is... As I'm dancing, I don't really think about what their critiques are going to be."
Iveta Lukosiute: "I'm not thinking of individual people who are watching."
Nick Young: "The last thing I'm thinking about while I'm dancing, as Wadi said, is the judges... You just kind of forget about everything, you just kind of perform for yourself."
On their SYTYCD highlights:Wadi Jones: "The highlight honestly was, for me, being able to connect with all the dancers."
Nick Young: "I think the hardest part about leaving is that I'm not going to be able to wake up with my greatest friends... We're past friendship. We're family."
Iveta Lukosiute: "For me, it was amazing that the dancers could do so much more than they could have imagined."
On who they think will win So You Think You Can Dance:Nick Young: "I'm not going to answer that, because anyone could win. I mean,
we could have won a couple of weeks ago."
Wadi Jones: "Anyone can take it, because it's all surprise... There are no favorites, because we're all such a big family. We all love each other."
Iveta Lukosiute: "Everyone deserves to be a winner on this show."
On their post-So You Think You Can Dance plans:Nick Young: "I'm not 100 percent positive what I want to do, but I'm hoping to move out to New York City and start a career."
Iveta Lukosiute: "I personally am planning to open a studio here in New York City... Actually, I was planning to do that, even before I got on the show... Maybe I would like to do
Dancing with the Stars."
Wadi Jones: "Teach kids how to handle abuse and how to use dance as an outlet... I've been working with kids my whole life, and I want to continue to do that."
