Nigel Lythgoe's been making much play of "major" changes coming to
So You Think You Can Dance, which returns on May 27. And the first major change?
He announced it on Twitter:
Yep, only one dancer will go home at the end of each week, rather than two. Imagine the huge impact this change has.
The past six seasons, the Top 20 danced in pairs, with two contestants eliminated every week to maintain the balance. So, two go, and nobody has to dance solo the following week.
What makes this change interesting is that it hints are a pretty big change in
SYTYCD's format. No more paired routines? A bigger reliance on solos? Maybe bigger weight on both? Will we even still have a Top 20? Maybe we'll only have ten finalists, culminating in a three-way finale rather than the usual four-way.
Well, it's still too early to speculate, but Nigel promised to reveal the other big changes to the show in the coming days. But this alone changes everything, don't you think?
