So You Think You Can Dance

SPOILER WARNING!  Well, kind of.  The So You Think You Can Dance Top 6 performed live Wednesday night, but due to pre-season football, the Thursday results show was postponed until this Monday.  However, the actual results show was taped Thursday evening, and despite FOX's insistence that no one spoil the results, that wasn't very likely.  Those results were destined to be on the Internet within minutes if not seconds.  Or not.

Read on for more about the rumor-mongering and speculation about who was kicked off So You Think You Can Dance.  But be warned, this article may contain some spoilers, so read at your own risk.

In order to avoid spoilers, the audience for the results show taping was not allowed to see who got eliminated.  Instead, in addition to the group and solo dances, they were shown each of the top six being told they were going to the final four, in order to get audience reactions to edit into the show, airing Monday at 8pm.  Then, the audience was ushered out before discovering who the real top four were.

That, of course, didn't stop wild speculation on the Internet, a place notorious for false information and misleading reports.  At the center of the storm is the popular "information" website Wikipedia.  For most of Thursday night, Wikipedia saw its So You Think You Can Dance article edited countless times, each one revealing a different pair of eliminated contestants.

The first reported Wikipedia entry listed Danny Tidwell and Lauren Gottlieb as the two eliminated dancers.  That quickly became changed to Neil Haskell and Lacey Schwimmer.  The third pair rumored to be eliminated according to Wikipedia were judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy.  A that point, it became a free-for-all.  It snowballed as people began making variants on the contestants first and last names.,  David Schwimmer, Eddie Haskell, Neil Armstrong were all predicted to be voted out.  Eventually, early Friday morning, the site finally got wise and shut it down.

Given the popularity of people messing with Wikipedia, as famous by Stephen Colbert's African elephant insanity, it's difficult to determine if any of that information was even remotely true, though it would be highly unlikely that Lythgoe and Murphy went home, though if America were given the option to vote for them, it would not be surprising.

At this time, there's still no confirmation or even somewhat reliable source on the Internet alleging who is eliminated.  Some people claim to have run into the contestants, but there's really no way to verify such a thing.  In this day and age of information and message boards, Nigel Lythgoe and the other So You Think You Can Dance producers should be very proud of themselves for orchestrating such a high profile cover-up.

Who is going home?  Even though the dancers found out yesterday, America may actually have to wait until Monday's show.
