Cat Deeley, current host of FOX's So You Think You Can Dance
, will act as host of FOX's “New Year's Eve Live” ninety minute event. The special will air from 11pm ET/PT to 12:30am ET/PT. The special will be live on the east coast, tape delayed everywhere else. The broadcast will consist of Deeley introducing highlights from pop culture, music, films and television from 2007, as well as some special musical guests. Spike Feresten (from Talk Show with Spike Feresten
) will act as correspondent from New York City's Times Square, interview party-goers and generally being the funny guy he usually is on TV. There is no word on who the musical guests will be at this juncture.
Cat Deeley is the female version of Ryan Seacrest, as far as I'm concerned. That's not an insult either. After witnessing her abilities over the past two seasons on So You Think You Can Dance
, Cat has proved to be one of the most adept and engaging reality hosts out there. Proceeding over a live television audience is not an easy task, but Deeley makes it look that way. Her easy rapport with her subjects and casual nature make for an enjoyable atmosphere. However, I'm not sure that means anyone is going to watch FOX's New Year's special.
First of all, most people are out getting belligerently intoxicated on New Year's (most people my age, at least) and those who are watching TV are likely heading to the December 31 staple of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, which is either being hosted by the robotic Carson Daly or the exhumed corpse of Dick Clark. Younger viewers will probably head over to MTV's “edgy” New Year's coverage. But, if you happen to turn the channel to FOX, prepare to be met by a cute, leggy blonde from England named Cat.
