Watch along with me tonight as the Top 20 takes the stage for the first official performance show and two dancers are instantly eliminated by the judges. Follow along with me right here and on
BuddyTV's So You Think You Can Dance Twitter.
Welcome to season 6 of
So You Think You Can Dance!
Our little dance kitten is looking like quite the vixen in red, with lips and heels to match.
It's our first solo intros of the season:
Impressed: Bianca, Asheligh, Russell, Victor
Not As Impressed: Sad to say
Channing, Nathan who impressed me yesterday.
Despite introducing the Top 20, we only saw 19 introductory solos Missing from the Top 20 solos was Noelle, so perhaps the rumors about her knee injury were true.
Nigel takes the judges intro time to tell the audience about Billy Bell's illness and withdrawal, as well as to confirm Noelle's injury. She did injure her knee in dress rehearsals, and will be getting an MRI to find out the extent of the injury. Interestingly, she won't be eliminated tonight, despite the fact she cannot dance. That hardly seems fair. If she can't dance next week, she will be eliminated.
It's time for our first couple.
Channing Cooke and Phillip Attmore - Jive
Choreographer: Jason Gilkison
Song: "Rockin' Robin" by The Jackson 5
Phillip's tap experience seems to be serving him well with quick retraction, the bounce in his knees, and flick kicks, but Channing is keeping up herself. Plus, she's selling the heck out of the performance. If she can get through the first few rounds, I think she is going to go far. There's a little bit of a fumble and lack of grace with the big trick. The routine classy and enjoyable, but it's not exciting. And despite their smiles, both Channing and Phllip look tentative with the jive at best.
Judges Say:
Shanks says it's a very classy pairing. Mary wants more from them, and thought they were a little lazy with their legs. Nigel expected Phillip to be good, and he was, but not as good as expected, plus he thought and he thought that Phillip tuckered out too early. Also, according to Nigel (and 100% correct) the pair was lacking chemistry.
Ashleigh Di Lello and Jakob Karr - Broadway
Choreographer: Tyce Diorio
Song: "Hit Me With A Hot Note"Tyce promises this is going to be a sultry Broadway routine...and by the look of the first few moments, full of tricks by Jakob Karr and sexy poses from Ashleigh. As Jakob is giving his all, all across the stage with leaps, Ashleigh is doing a lot of hair flicking and a couple of high kicks. Jakob is selling the sexiness, but not over the top Di Lello style. Save Jakob, it didn't seem like a ton was going on in that routine. Save Mr. Karr, it was all kinds of dull.
Judges Say:
Adam Shankman says God put Jakob on the earth to spread the gospel of dance. And then warns Ashleight that it's going to be hard to be partnered with him, because Jakob is going to kill it every time. Mary thinks Ashleigh is more than just fine, calling it sexy and sultry. Yes Mary hair flips are very sexy, strippers have figured that out....but it does not make America's Favorite Dancer. Nigel says that Ashleigh proved why she was in the Top 20. He also says that Jakob is one of the most gifted dancers he has ever seen and then laments the loss of Billy Bell. He then tells Jakob if he keeps dancing the way he does, he could bring Ashleigh all the way into the finals.
