I know, as well as anyone, that there's an excellent chance that
Josh and
Katee will be the last two standing on tonight's season 4 finale of
So You Think You Can Dance. It will pretty impressive if they are since a couple that started out the season together has never made it all the way to the finale together. It's also impressive since the pair had a lot to overcome when they headed into the Top 20. Katee needed to redeem herself after telling the judges, in Vegas, that she would not try out if she didn't make it. The judges, especially Mia Michaels, saw her as a person who would easily throw in the towel if she didn't get her way. Josh has been deemed the "untrained dancer" this season (even though that's not necessarily true) and had to pick up styles of dance he was very unfamiliar with. I know that that they've both performed brilliantly this season. I'm just rooting for the underdogs - and I don't think I'm alone here!
If we're talking about who danced the best this season, I'd have to give it to Josh and Katee. However, Cat and Nigel have reminded us on numerous occasions that this is about finding America's Favorite Dancer so therefore, I'm throwing all of my support behind
Courtney and
Twitch. Based on the final comments the judges gave last night, I believe that that's also where their support lies. Each judge was heartfelt and sometimes emotional when giving their feedback to Twitch and Courtney and it seemed as if they were truly invested in the two dancers. When it was time for Josh and Katee to face the judges after their solos, they did receive tremendous praise, but it didn't feel as if Nigel, Mary, and Mandy had the emotional attachment to them.
I have to give it to Twitch and Courtney. They both knew, coming into this competition, that it was going to be an uphill battle to survive. They embraced every style they were given, admitted and acknowledged their shortcomings, and gave every last bit of heart that was in them when they hit that dance floor. Both Courtney's and Twitch's solos have consistently been the most interesting to watch this season and it is very clear that these two were meant to be in the final four.
Regardless of who wins tonight, this has been an unbelievable season, chock full of routines that we fans will talk about for years to come. These dancers will soon head out on their national tour and after that, teach workshops and most likely appear in shows and movies. It's cheesy to say that the final four are all winners but, in truth, they really are. If Josh and Katee are, in fact, that last two standing tonight, I won't be disappointed. I just can't help but root for the pair that impressed me on and off the dance floor, in their rehearsal videos, in their interviews, in the way they carried themselves, and in the way that they showed the love they have for dance.
