Once a season of
So You Think You Can Dance ends, the dancers hardly have any time to rest. They head right out on an exhausting nationwide tour, hitting almost 50 cities in just a few months. Soon, though, it’s back to reality and earning a living all on your own. The former contestants often rely on teaching master classes and workshops in order to pay their bills. Some lands jobs in music videos, on tours with big name artists, or in professional shows in New York or L.A. Last season’s runner up,
Neil Haskell, just booked a movie, which fans will be able to see later this year.
Neil has just finished filming a new movie for MTV, which he is understandably very excited about. The movie will air on the music channel at the end of August. “It’s a musical movie produced by the same people as High School Musical,” he said in a radio interview with Kiss 98.5/Buffalo. In the movie,
The American Mall, Haskell plays a janitor who is also in a rock band. Their instruments get stolen, he and his friends meet some girls at the mall, and hijinks (and choreographed dance numbers) ensue. He described the film as “
Mallrats with dance”. The movie also stars
Autumn Reeser, who
The O.C. fans will remember as Taylor Townshend on the FOX drama.
Haskell says that he hasn’t exactly stayed in touch with the dancer who beat him last year,
Sabra Johnson. “I haven’t talked to her too much. I’m still a little jealous about the money,” he joked. He did, however, give as much of an update on the winner as he could. “I think she’s in New York right now. I think she’s doing a lot of teaching so she’s doing pretty well for herself.” He also updated the listeners on fellow cast member
Sara Von Gillern, who is currently touring with Avril Lavigne.
