So You Think You Can Dance: Finale Predictions

It seems impossible to believe, but we're just one week and two eliminations away from the season 6 So You Think You Can Dance finale. With six dancers set to dance in the finale and only one week of America's vote deciding eliminations, it is less clear than ever before who is most likely to be crowned America's Favorite Dancer. However based on pre-performance show spoilers, our keen sense of predictions, and taking popularity into account, we're pretty sure we can tell you which six dancers will be taking the finale stage.

If the producers of So You Think You Can Dance want it to seem like they aren't hand picking the final dancers, they really need to let us vote for the entire season and not have the final partnerships and genres seem so overtly based on personal favorites and marketable story lines. Ashleigh, the swan story paired with superstar Russell who's never been in the bottom when America's had a say? Molle paired with Jakob? Ellenore and Legacy pulling a hip hop and contemporary routine. We swear, it's completely random! As it stands, it is clear as day who they want to be dancing in the finale and even clearer who they don't ... and sadly, I think they'll be getting their wish.

So, who do we think will be left standing for next week's finale?

For the guys, the final three seems painfully clear, embarrassingly so for Ryan Di Lello. Unless something goes horribly awry for Jakob, Russell, or Legacy (and maybe even if something does) they're finale bound.

Legacy Perez:
Legacy and his growth have been a central to the story of season 6. The judges seem to take no greater joy than in complimenting Legacy on his growth, while never commenting on the fact that every choreographer has added b-boying moves in pieces and genres that don't necessitate them. It's been clear since his first audition, that Legacy was cherry picked for the finale as does the fact he 'randomly' drew a NappyTabs hip hop routine and Travis Wall contemporary routine this week. The most frustrating part of this all? Legacy is a hard enough worker that he could have done it on his own without the judges and choreographers helping hands.

Russell Ferguson:
As far as I can tell, Russell is the most universally loved dancer to have ever stepped foot on the So You Think You Can Dance stage. He's found himself in the bottom only once this season and that was during week one, when he had to dance with a professional partner without a proper rehearsal. He has been praised week after week by the judges for his confounding lines, grace, and technique. Whether we buy the whole "not formally trained" line the judges keep parroting (but Russell's official bio seems to contradict), we're certain that Russell has exactly what So You Think You Can Dance is looking for in a winner: star power and immense potential.

Jakob Karr:
If Russell is the most universally loved dancer in the history of So You Think You Can Dance, Jakob Karr is the most universally technically praised. We've rarely heard Jakob be called anything but brilliant this season and for the most part his performances have lived up to the hype and praise. Jakob is a dancer's dancer and they're the people who are voting for him in droves. Paired with the judges praise and his increasingly personable performances, Jakob will be the technician of this season's finale... the question is can a technician win?

For the girls, the final three seems much less clear. Ellenore's injury puts the clear finale front runner in the air, while a battle seems to be brewing between the Team Mollee and Team Kathryn's of the So You Think You Can Dance fan-dom. And of course, then there's the wild card of the season: Ashleigh DiLello and her ugly duckling journey from pre-season elimination to finale contender.

Ellenore Scott:
Whether you care for her quirky personality and choreographed solos or not, it's hard to deny the consistency and strength Ellenore has demonstrated all season. Save a few stumbles, most notably one courtesy of a Lil C' hip hop routine, Ellenore has been highly praised by the judges for her technique, strength, and "it girl" qualities. We have to wait and see how her injury effects her finale future, but barring doctor's orders we'd be shocked if we didn't see her in the final six.

Mollee Gray:
Do not underestimate the power of the High School Musical voters. While it may seem like Mollee has eked into the top 8, the truth is she has a rabid fan base in dance forums, on Twitter, and presumably picking up the phone and calling in for her. That being said, Mollee, out of all the dancers this week, benefits from the fact that people vote for and not against a dancer. For every rabid fan she seems to have a detractor who is turned off by her immaturity and her devotion to gymnastics moves instead of dance in her solos. Mollee showed a more mature side to her dancing last week and her pairing this week with Jakob Karr combined with her popularity should all add up to a spot in the finale.

Ashleigh Di Lello:
The third and final spot for a girl presents the biggest trouble predicting the finale: will personality and growth beat out consistency and technical strength? I say this with a tinge of sadness, but I think yes...meaning Ashleigh Di Lello will be the third and final girl in the finale. Unlike Legacy and Russell's amazing growth, I don't think Ashleigh's arc is lip service. She has improved leaps and bounds since week one, and the woman who steps on stage tonight won't be the same who first took the stage. America loves a heart warming story and Ashleigh has one. I suspect this means she'll make the finale, but will ultimately be the dancer who garners the lowest votes once she is there.

And just so you know, in my dream world, the finale would look just a little bit different:

finale2.jpgI'm still holding out hope and my votes for technique trumping personality and popularity when it comes to Kathryn McCormick.

So what do you think America, which six dancers do you think will be in the So You Think You Can Dance finale?
