So You Think You Can Dance: Catching Up With Sabra Johnson
Tuesday, May 06, 2008

To the average person, So You Think You Can Dance winner Sabra Johnson has lived a quiet life since season 3 ended. She turned down a role in High School Musical 3 and has gone back to doing what she does best: dancing and teaching. Sabra didn't even begin her formal dance training until she was 16 years old and now, has students all over the country looking to her for guidance.  She recently did an interview with the dance blog, Shimmy, to let fans know what she’s been up to and how life has changed for her since winning So You Think You Can Dance.

“My life has changed drastically,” Sabra told Shimmy. “I'm so lucky because I get to dance all the time and not have to worry about not being able to afford it. I get to travel and teach and meet dancers from all over, and just share what we do together.” Sabra is constantly on the go, appearing at conventions and teaching at studios all over the country. “I think I spend most of my time on airplanes,” she joked.

Most notably, Sabra works with the New York City Dance Association. Former SYTYCD contestant Travis Wall, has also actively been involved with the organization and their conventions. “NYCDA is an amazing convention. I have a lot of respect for it and its morals,” she said. “The teachers and people are wonderful. I am an assistant so I get to take all the classes and basically learn just like everybody else. I couldn't ask for a better weekend 'job'.”

When asked to list her favorite dancers, Sabra put two former SYTYCD contestants on her list. Sabra answered, “Jaimie Goodwin, Roderick George, Danny Tidwell, Jillian Meyers, Tony Testa and plenty of other insane people that I don't even know.” Many SYTYCD fans will remember that Sabra had dreams of becoming a comedian and told Shimmy that she’d love to trade places with Dane Cook or Ellen DeGeneres for a day. Finally, she told the dance site that in 10 years, she hopes that she’ll still be teaching or just be a beach bum!
