Last night on
So You Think You Can Dance, the top 16 performers paired up for the third week of performances. There were some amazing standouts, notably from Katee and Josh. There was also a lackluster quickstep courtesy of Chelsea T and Thayne. But it all comes down to who America voted for.
Tonight will mark the end of one more girl and one more guy on their journey towards being America's favorite dancer. Who will it be? Keep coming back here; I'll provide you with live thoughts throughout the hour.
The hour begins with a very cool group dance, performed to "The Dance" by Charlotte Martin. I love the creepiness of the costumes and the weird circus-like vibe. It's very freakshow, but in a good way. This is Mia Michaels' choreography at its best.
Cat Deeley saunters her way on stage. I've liked all of her dresses so far this season on
So You Think You Can Dance, but I'm not crazy about the one she's wearing tonight. It has a weird bodice on the front, with a weird ruffly thing that goes up to her chin. It's as if Rami and Christian Siriano teamed up to create something, on two hours of sleep each.
The first three couples are brought out on stage to learn their fates. First,
Chelsea Traille and
Thayne Jasperson. Nigel told them yesterday to get their solos ready, and indeed, they have landed in the bottom three tonight.
Katee Shean and
Joshua Allen, who danced the samba last night, are safe.
Chelsie Hightower and
Mark Kanemura, who danced an emotional hip hop routine, last night, are also safe.
After the break,
Kherington Payne and Twitch Payne are the next couple to find out whether they will be dancing for their lives. Twitchington is definitely safe tonight. My favorite couple
Courtney Galiano and
Gev Manoukian did a steamy rumba last night. And for a split second, we get some footage of Courtney teasing poor Gev by sexily walking up the stairs. Gev is so adorable with his huge crush on her. These two are safe - yay!
Comfort Fedoke and
Chris Jarosz, however, are in the bottom three.
There are only two couples next:
Kourtni Lind and
Matt Dorame, and
Jessica King and
William Wingfield. Of these two couples, the final couple in the bottom three are Kourtni and Matt, which means that Jessica and Will will be dancing together again next week.
The guest dance group tonight is a hip hop dance crew called Quest, three members of which are former
So You Think You Can Dance contestants:
Ryan Conferido,
Dominic Sandoval and
Hok Konishi. They dance to "Chemical Calisthenics" by Blackalicious and start out the routine wearing labcoats. It's kind of adorable.
Chelsea Traille dances the first solo, and it's readily apparent that she put a lot of work into her solo. She chose a great song to dance too, and she showed off a lot of good technique and emotion.
Thayne dances next, and normally, I'm mildly irritated by him, but he goes and decides to choose "Always" by Bon Jovi to dance to, making me momentarily fall in love with ... Bon Jovi again. Not a fantastic solo, but really, all I can think of right now is Bon Jovi.
Comfort dances to Mary J. Blige, and she's just as snappy and poppy as ever. She really is a great hip hop dancer.
Chris's solo annoys me, but it might just be because he annoys me. Nothing special to report about.
Kourtni Lind's turn is up. I love her song choice and her cute little dress, and her choreography isn't that bad either.
The last dancer to perform his solo is Matt. Naturally, he has awesome technique, and he really does seem to take Nigel's constructive criticism to heart and tries to put more feeling into his routine.
The judges file out of the auditorium to make their decision. And while they are deliberating,
Jordin Sparks from
American Idol takes the stage to sing "One Step At a Time." I'm no lover of
American Idol, and neither am I crazy about Jordin Sparks.
After the break, the judges are back in their seats. Nigel tells all six in danger that they've all been in the bottom several times now, so they've got to step it up. He tells Chelsea Traille without much ado that it's the end of the road for her. He doesn't even soften the blow, man. Oh, that's too bad. I really liked Chelsea and I'll miss her and her huge biceps. Now for the boys. Matt is safe. Thayne is safe. And Chris is outta here! This means that next week, Thayne will be dancing with Comfort.
