Tonight was the round of cuts on
So You Think You Can Dance. Results shows are always very bittersweet: it's always a relief to see the most deserving dancers get through to the next round, but sad to see anyone leave. These top 20 dancers are undoubtedly all extremely talented, and although it's still early in the season and we haven't really gotten to know them all individually, it's still hard to see anyone go.
Along with the live musical act (which was The Pussycat Dolls, and the less said about them, the better), we were treated to the first in a series of special guest dancers. Popin Pete and Shonnie of The Electric Boogaloos performed an amazing popping routine.
After tabulating last night's votes, there were three guys and three girls who were in danger.
Kourtni Lind
Kourtni danced a very strong contemporary solo tonight. She also has a great personality and great potential to be excellent, so the judges were unanimous in keeping her around.
Jessica King
Another in the slew of contemporary dancers this season, Jessica's solo was just okay. She showed a lot of enthusiasm in her solo, but it just didn't have the substance that Kourtni's had. Still, the judges thought that she had enough talent to save.
Rayven Armijo
Rayven danced a rock-inspired ballet solo tonight, but curiously, she didn't break out the heavy technique. Even though she was ostensibly "dancing for her life," as Nigel Lythgoe likes to say, she opted not to dance on pointe. This decision proved to be her fatal flaw, and for that, she was sent home.
William Wingfield
This protege of Debbie Allen is such an accomplished dancer that it's a shame that he ended up in the bottom three. If anyone forgot how great he really is, he reminded everyone in a big way with his remarkable solo. This kid can jete like there's no tomorrow, and the judges were unanimous in keeping him around.
Matt Dorame
Matt's greatest strength is his impeccable technique and his great strength. However, as Nigel likes to keep harping on, he doesn't have a loud personality, and that might be what holds him back. The judges decided tonight to reward technique over personality, so Matt will live to see another week.
Jamie Bayard
The only ballroom dancer among the guys, Jamie definitely has a winsome, earnest personality that the judges appreciated, but he was not quite as accomplished in his technique. The judges unanimously chose him to be the one to go home, and it was sad to watch him get choked up on stage after he found out about it.
Whose solo did you like the best?
