At the outset, I would like to ask for understanding whether the items on this list are a little flimsy. If you've followed our
So You Think You Can Dance coverage last season, you might've gathered that it was my first time to watch the show--but I'd like to think I'm no stranger to what came before. So, pretty much, I think most of the items on this season 6 wish list are basic. Or maybe it's a matter of me wanting to see the same things you want to see, which is a good thing because I'm getting it.
Anyway, here are the things I wish to see when the sixth season comes along, and it's mostly based on the stuff I've seen over the past few months. And mostly subjective, too. By the way, everything starts tomorrow already. Surprising, no?
More dance styles. And by that, I mean more than last season. I'm sure everybody's complained that all they seemed to do was either hip-hop or waltz or disco. At least that's what I thought I saw. I don't have problems with contemporary (because it's really open to interpretation) but for the rest, unless I feel that bang factor, it feels I've seen the same thing over and over again. Which leads me to this.
Less Broadway. Not because I hate it, but because last season we've had a lot. Broadway this week, Broadway the next week. Imagine the frustration on my face. Maybe it's because the random hat was secretly hoping to have Evan pick Broadway, which happened only a couple of times. This time around, I don't think the hat will think of such things...
A themed week. Because it's still a shame plans for a Michael Jackson week went nowhere because of rights issues.
A less creepy Nigel Lythgoe. We can only dream, right? I can take Mary's screams, but not Nigel's misplaced comments that, by the finale, was more innuendo than accidental slip. It always makes me rewatch the performance and pay attention to the detail that launched the comment--sooo distracting.
More Wade Robson. But only because we both love RóisÃn Murphy, who gave us "Ramalama" and last season's "Ruby Blue". (It's since become my phone's ringtone.) Speaking of choreographers--well, we know more or less who our favorites are, but I can't wait to be surprised, Travis Wall's dance (or virtual makeout session) being one of them. This year, who could it be?
Finally, a little more weight for Cat Deeley. Just because seeing her look a little too thin for her outfits freak me out and make me worried. And please, ATAS, give her an Emmy nomination?
