Wade and Amanda Robson's choreography to the music of "Aha!" was, as
Cat Deely exclaimed, "a living, breathing work of art". It was simply
superb in every way imaginable and made use of the season 6 dancers in
a manner unprecedented. Nakul Dev Mahajan's Bollywood number was also
an absolute energetic joy to watch. Let us please stop saying it might
be too difficult for the dancers in its native form. Bollywood looks
like a combination of African, Jazz and Hip Hop dance---all of which
are performed on So You Think You Can Dance. You can do it. Sock it to
'em, Nakul!
This week, the discussions centered around what it means to be
"America's Favorite DANCER" and Nigel warned that those in the bottom
three couples would have to, truly, dance for their lives. I chose the
exact bottom three couples that landed in the bottom three this week,
in my notes of course! As a result, I jotted down phrases about each
solo, sometimes yelling at each dancer as though they were in my living
room.
Solos
Karen - Extremely strange solo, showed off nothing and not even in her
own style. What in the rock groupie hell was that, Karen? Do not ever,
ever, ever do that again!
Kevin - Just okay, not enough "umph" and you took way too long to get
into it. We need more than the backbend, too. Don't be a one trick pony!
Channing - Danced for her life, indeed! She showed her great strength and in her style.
Victor - Amazing, great song choice, love the pirouettes a la second but be careful that you are not a one trick pony, either!
Mollee - Pulled out tons of tricks, vivacious energy and an amazing aerial cartwheel to knee move and some great flips.
Nathan - Nice pirouettes as well but not close to Victor. You gave some
energy but there is not enough time for quirky arts interpretation. You
did not impress until the last 20 seconds.
Yes, Karen's solo was absolutely horrible but she really does have so
much star quality and outstanding past performances that the judges
would have made this choice either this week or next week. Channing is
an outstanding dancer and I will miss watching her extraordinary
strength. But with so many great dancers this season and with Ashleigh
stepping up so high, she was bound not to make the Top 10. Take care,
you beautiful powerhouse! And Kevin, you are well-loved and we enjoyed
you; but it was easy to tell you would not make it without embodying
the outstanding b-boys from past seasons (channel Twitch, Joshua,
Phillip and Ade). Looking forward to what you and that beautiful smile
will be doing next. Until then...
Stay tuned and keep dancing!
