So You Think You Can Dance

It was a scenario that many So You Think You Can Dance fans didn't want to see.  Twitch Boss and Will Wingfield, two of this season's frontrunners, landed in last night's bottom two and one of them had to go.  Will, who has landed in the bottom a few times this season, was the one that pulled the least amount of votes this week and was sent home.  Will is Debbie Allen's protege and she had to step down as a judge this season so that he could participate.  Was that move a blessing or a curse?  In Will's exclusive interview with BuddyTV today, he addresses that as well as how he feels about his fellow competitors.

Hey everybody. This is Gina from BuddyTV, and today I’m talking to Will from So You Think You Can Dance. Will, look, don’t take this the wrong way, but I really don’t want to be talking to you right now because I thought you were going to win the whole thing.

Well, it’s kind of one of those things, you know. You never know what’s going to happen.


How surprised were you to land in the bottom two last night?

I wasn’t surprised at all, actually. I’m very thankful for everybody who’s still in the competition. I’m very happy that I could see Twitch stay and me go.


Do you feel like because Debbie Allen had to step down from being a judge so that you could be in the competition, did that add to the pressure for you this year?

I don’t think it added to the pressure for me. I think it gave me more motivation rather than more pressure. But I do think it had a lot of negative affects in America’s eyes. A lot of people didn’t understand things, whatever the reason was, and a lot of people used that against me.


Well, I loved your James Brown solo, and I was wondering if you did that this week to try to show America that you do have this big personality and you do have a sense of humor.

Everything that we do is pretty much for American, you know, but this time, I just wanted to kind of let loose, you know. I felt like all the competition has been so stressful. We’re always work, work, work. I get so focused all the time. For myself, I just wanted to get loose. If they accepted it, then awesome. But if they didn’t, I enjoyed myself.


Do you feel like you were misunderstood at all?

Absolutely.


What is it about you that you think America didn’t get to see?

I feel like, with the packages, I’m not the type of person that’s really high-energy all the time and just takes you and pull you in. I’m more a person that’s more low-key, in the background, but once you get to know me, I’m an awesome guy. I really am. I’m from down South, and I was raised with very good values and morals, and I will help anybody. Absolutely anybody. So I feel like with the packages and the time and the stress level and all those things, a lot of times America doesn't really get to see you. They edit it the way they want, but that’s fine. That’s absolutely fine with me.


You seem like you got close with the other guys on the show, especially Twitch and Josh. How was the relationship among the dancers for you?

The relationship is so much tighter than anybody would believe.


What are you most looking forward to on tour?

Just the experience. I’ve never been on tour. I’ve always wanted to go on tour. The fans are coming to see us. As dancers, as artists, that’s huge for dancers who’ve worked so hard and so long in the background, unappreciated. It’s setting the bar for how dancers should be treated and how dancers should be showcased, in my opinion.


Do you have a favorite routine that you got to perform this season?

I have a favorite group routine. It would have to be Shane Sparks’ group routine. I enjoyed that a lot, and I had to learn some new tricks and how to move like that. It was a really, really tight learning experience for me, so I would have to say Shane Sparks’.


And, do you have anything that you want to say to your fans? Because you have a lot of them out there.

To my fans, I would just like to say thank you so much for the loving support and it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated and I love them all.
