It was hard for Joshua Allen to hide the shock on his face when he was declared the winner of last night’s season finale of So You Think You Can Dance.  A mostly untrained dancer, he went up against people who dedicated their lives to training for a competition like this.  Josh, though, defied the odds and prevailed in the end.  Paired with Katee Shean early in the season, the two broke away from the pack and established themselves as frontrunners on the very first night of performances.  Since then, he has gone on to impress in just about every style of dance and performed several entertaining solos.  He was a dancer that America could get behind and last night, he found out that, after 60 million votes, he had won season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance!  Today, he took time out of busy schedule to talk to BuddyTV in an exclusive interview.

Below, you will find the complete transcript and mp3 of the interview.

Hey everybody, this is Gina from BuddyTV and today I’m talking to Joshua Allen, the winner of season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance. Well first of all, congratulations on winning last night. What a crazy, crazy night for you.

I know.

Have you gotten any sleep, have you rested at all?

I’ve probably gotten like four hours or five.

Watching the finale and watching the performances this week, you guys all look totally exhausted at the end of each dance. What has the last week or two been like for you?

Pushed, really. It has really been a push, they really want you to work for it, they’re not giving you anything. They really want you to work for it and push and push and push, so that’s what we did. You know, we were so tired, I looked at the TV and I was watching myself like oh my god, I was gray at one point.

Well you guys had to bring back some of the favorite routines and we saw Bollywood and we saw your hip-hop routine. Was it easy to pick those up again?

When you hear the music you remember most of them, but of course we had to go over them a couple times to make sure that we had them pretty good. We so didn’t want to mess them up for the show, because it was live, everything was live, so if you messed up that was it. I was kind of nervous because you want to do an even better job than what you did at first. But everything was fun, the performance was fun, because you knew you weren’t really getting judged at the end of it, so no need to stress out.

Going into last night’s finale, what were you expecting? Where did you think you were going to finish this competition?

I really wasn’t trying to think about it too much, because I thought it might blow my head up if I did.

It was pretty surprising that there were two hip-hop dancers in the finale, how proud were you and Twitch of yourselves for being the last two standing?

Very, very, very, very. We talked before we went out, we were like man, no matter what, we’re the last two, it doesn’t matter now because hip-hop is going to win. We were really happy, it was such a blessing.

There were a lot of fans that were surprised that Katee ended up finishing third, a lot of people thought that you two would be the last two standing. Did it surprise you that she went out third?

It did. If you go back to the part when they called her name, because I just dropped down, because I was like, “Are you serious? Are you sure?” That really was a big surprise because Katee is an amazing dancer. I’m really happy that she walked away with something, I was so happy when they surprised her and told her that she got the $50,000. So that was really good and I was so happy for her.

Your dad looked so proud of you last night in the audience. What did your family say to you after the show was over?

We really didn’t get a lot of time, because we had to rush and do interviews. But my mom was speechless, she really couldn’t even talk, and my brother and my dad was just like, “We knew you could do it.”

Well there must not be very much downtime, you must be getting right into rehearsals for the tour.

No, actually we get a little break, we get a two week break. We get to home and take care of business there.

Are you looking forward to getting away for a little bit and just relaxing?

I am, I am. We’ve been going so much and I think it’ll be best right now to get a little break and then start pushing hard. We want to do a great job for the tour also, so we’re going to push our bodies even more. I can’t believe we have 45 or 46 numbers that we’re going to be doing.

It was so much chaos when you won last night and we really didn’t get to hear everything you wanted to say. Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans now?

Thank you guys so much for voting and for believing in me that I could do it, believing that this year we could do something. It just really means a lot, everybody that voted just means so much to me. I never can express how much that means to me, so I just really want to try to say thank you, thank you, thank you. I just feel so blessed and so humbled by this experience, and you’ll never know the way you changed my life. Thank you again.

Congratulations again, we can’t wait to catch you on the tour, and thanks so much.

All right, thank you.
