So You Think You Can Dance season 9 is about to come to an end, and it's time to look back at the season. Who better to do that than Travis Wall? The former SYTYCD contestant and current choreographer who now has his own show, All the Right Moves, recently spoke to BuddyTV.

Because Travis Wall is a busy man, he had to call during his commute. Where was he going?

Travis Wall: I'm going to rehearsal for the Top 4 finale show.

BuddyTV: Are you choreographing something for that?

Travis Wall: Yeah, I'm choreographing a duet.

BuddyTV: Can you say anything about that, or is that still top-secret?

Travis Wall: Ah, I don't think I can say who I have yet. It's a really good couple though. So I've got a lot to live up to!

BuddyTV: I bet. What do you think about this season of So You Think You Can Dance?

Travis Wall: I think it's amazing. I think season 9 has had the best group of overall dancers.
The people who were getting cut first -- I was like, "They would have won or they would have been at the top of any other season!" You know, I feel like they're **so good this season.

I think it just sucks with FOX's scheduling, no one's really grasped onto the show, because you never know when it's on. Sometimes Wednesday, sometimes Tuesdays, then there's a two-week break... I think everybody had a hard time with the Olympics this year. Even my own show [All the Right Moves], premiering during the Olympics -- the Olympics are the most important thing of the whole summer.

I do think, though, this is the best choreography and some of the best dancing too. So I think it's an amazing season. I just don't think as many people have seen it.

BuddyTV: Do you have a favorite dancer this season?

Travis Wall: I definitely love the Top 4. I think they're so amazing. And the way they've gotten to the Top 4, the challenges they went through... I think definitely the Top 4 have earned it.

I love Eliana. I think she is beautiful and technically stunning and I would hire her every day. She would be forever hired.

As far as boys... I just don't think anyone's seen anything like Cyrus before on the show. No one's kind of seen that dancer on the show before. Especially when I worked with him -- he's the hardest worker I've really ever met on that show. He's already a master at what he does, and he told me he wanted to be a contemporary dancer. "Why do you want to be a contemporary dancer? You're great in what you do!" He's like, "It's what I want to do. I want to incorporate my own." I just think he's so unique and I don't think anyone's ever voted for someone like this before.

I like Chehon's technique and I think, honestly, he's just a beautiful ballet dancer from a ballet company. He's gorgeous, and it's really nice to see a male dancer on this show with that technique make it to the finale.

I'm so happy Chehon made it, but if I were to vote, I would vote for Cyrus.

BuddyTV: What has it been like for you, coming back to So You Think You Can Dance as a choreographer after having competed on it?

Travis Wall: In the beginning, it was very surreal. I was like, "I've gotten the biggest opportunity. And this is crazy that I get to be a choreographer on this show. This is everything I wanted to do." When I got first runner-up, I said I want to be a choreographer on the show. That's what I wanted to do. It was surreal at the beginning, it was so exciting. You know, I definitely connect to the contestants more, because I was in their position, so it's sort of like an "I got your back" kind of thing here.

Nowadays, this season especially, I've walked in with a different hindsight. Every time I used to choreograph for the show, I always thought, "I've got to prove myself to them. I've got to prove that I'm a good choreographer. I've got to prove it." And then this year, I've kind of come into my own a little more and I've got good experience as a choreographer in the industry for three or four years now. And I've got a lot under my belt, being so young. I'm so much more experienced and so smarter. And I feel like I do have a place here and I've come to, "I just have to prove it to myself and nobody else."

BuddyTV: Do you have a favorite piece you've choreographed?

Travis Wall: Ahhhhh... Yeah... [laughs] I feel like the pieces that just really touched me, that are timeless to me -- I go back and I watch them and I know what that dance is about and what I was going through in my life at that time. I think I really connect with those pieces, the ones where I really opened up about my life on TV. You know, the one about my mom, the "Fix You" one, that one will always be -- just watching that will remind me of what I've been through in my life, going through that situation and what my mother's been through. So those pieces really mean a lot to me.
