Motivating contestants on
So You Think You Can Dance is just an added bonus to having Cat Deeley as your host. She really gets into the spirit of things on the reality series, showing genuine kindness towards the hopefuls and encouraging each of them to keep going. With the auditions for season 5 of the hit dance contest in full swing, Cat spoke to her audiences about what's been going on so far.
Cat Deeley was interviewed by TV Guide, and she opened up about how she feels towards the dancers and how she manages to really connect with them. She also revealed a few things about what the judges really want to see on stage.
“If you can make it a really great life experience for everybody who comes on, then win or lose there can only be one winner. But then win or lose, you've got 20 people who've taken away something that they're gonna tell their kids about and their kids' kids!” Deeley explained.
“I try and stay in touch with them all too,” she says. Indeed, this extraordinary host is doing her best to develop a personal bond with each of the contestants. She even throws a BBQ party every fourth of July, inviting the dancers over and spending time with each other. “They come right to my house and have beers and margaritas and they swim in my pool.”
Deeley also opened up about the amazing dresses she got to wear during the series, even pointing out that some of them are a bit “silly” for her tastes. But she dons them anyway, hoping to boost the morale of the competitors.
When the host was asked about what we can expect from next season's
So You Think You Can Dance, she admitted that the standards have gone up. “I think they will always be stepping up, because it just has to be. If you see someone doing a double flip off the back of the stage and then run up the wall and if someone else does it again, it is good, but you can't help but want the bar to be raised a little bit, you know.”
“You've got to do something to make America pick up the phone and vote. And they've got to connect with your personality, there's got to be something that's gonna set you apart from everybody else,” she adds. “We're not kind of talking about the best dancer, but America's favorite dancer, which is a different thing.”
