There was a lot of drama in last week’s episode of Smash — Eileen had to step down from producing Bombshell and her ex-husband Jerry stepped in and is now in charge. And the very sneaky Ellis was involved in the whole ordeal. But the good news is they’ve been given the go-ahead to continue working on the musical. NBC has released three preview videos from this Tuesday’s episode, “The Read-Through,” which includes Karen performing as Marilyn and guest star Sean Hayes.

According to NBC, in episode 5, “Julia’s fears increase when Tom airs his suspicions of Peter. Jimmy and Kyle confront their own crisis of confidence as Hit List is read for the first time. Meanwhile, Ivy realizes her triumph might not be all she hoped when she meets her new co-star, Terry Falls (guest star Sean Hayes), and Karen wonders if she can trust Jimmy.” Along with Sean Hayes and Daniel Sunjata, Hairspray‘s Nikki Blonsky also guest stars.

Now that Bombshell is up and running again, Karen steps back into Marilyn Monroe’s shoes to perform “Public Relations.” The men on stage refer to her as “America’s smart dumb blonde” — is this part of the new approach to the musical where the story will be told from the point of view of the men in Marilyn’s life?

Karen continues helping Jimmy and Kyle on getting their musical up and running, including setting up a reading of the script. But the joy is short-lived, as someone walks into the room, and Karen instantly becomes uncomfortable.

Now that Jennifer Hudson has finished her three-episode arc, it’s time to move on to the next big guest star: Sean Hayes! Unfortunately, he and his former Will & Grace co-star Debra Messing won’t be sharing any scenes together. He’s playing Terrence Falls, who is starring in Liaisons with Ivy. In order to become the best actor that he can be, he decides to go off his meds — watch the below video to see what he’s like after being set free, so to speak.

Smash airs Tuesdays at 10pm on NBC.
