'Smallville's Gough and Millar to Pen 'Monster High'
'Smallville's Gough and Millar to Pen 'Monster High'
Now that they're done with the long-running story of Clark Kent, Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are heading over to the dark side. Well, sort of. They're just writing the screenplay.

Lex and Lana for Smallville Season 10?

Reuters reports that the duo have been hauled by Universal Studios to pen the upcoming film known as Monster High. It's said to be a musical featuring the spawn of your classic Halloween creeps - Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman.

This so-called "frighteningly fashionable" project will see that these kids get through high school, facing the average teen's travails despite their peculiar appearance. Gough and Millar's take on Monster High is aiming for a touch of Tim Burton's Beetlejuice as well as The Addams Family.

They're certainly taking a different direction, coming from their work on action flicks like Shanghai Noon and Spider-Man 2. It's an odd choice for Mattel, the company producing the movie. Still, these two Smallville creators will find a way to make things work. They're flexible enough. These two did, after all, manage to produce Hannah Montana: The Movie.

But with Monster High, the products will reach an even larger scale. Since it's the property of Mattel, there's going to be an in-house brand based on this franchise. It will be the first time that the company will push through with webisodes, books, animation, and apparel, not to mention your usual bunch of toys. It was only a matter of time until they made a live-action movie about it.

Now why couldn't they do this with Smallville, go all the way with the marketing? It's a completely different matter, of course, but you have to admit it'd be interesting to see. We might as well content ourselves with the Season 9 DVD, which will be released this September.

As for Gough and Millar, let's just wait until Monster High comes out. It might not be as legendary as the CW show, but it could be worth a look.
