Smallville's Erica Durance in the running for Barbarella remake?
Erica Durance, Smallville’s Lois Lane, is rumoured to be in the running for a new remake of Barbarella, the 1968 cult science fiction erotica movie that starred a young Jane Fonda. The remake’s script is said to be written by James Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, and produced by Italian movie producer Dino De Laurentiis (Hannibal, Hannibal Rising).

Previously, tabloids and other outlets have reported at various times that Kate Beckinsale, Scarlett Johansson, Kirsten Dunst, Drew Barrymore, Angelina Jolie, and Lindsay Lohan have been considered for the role of Barbarella. Of course, there’s been no confirmation on any of these, and Kate Beckinsale told IGN news that she hadn’t been contacted officially or even heard the rumors herself.

The Daily Star reports that a “source” in Hollywood said that “the remake of Barbarella is a really big deal in Hollywood. Lots of names have been thrown into the mix but Erica looks almost certain to fill the role. This is a big chance for her.”

Last month Durance was in Ontario, Canada last month filming a TV movie called I Me Wed, a comedy also starring Paul Popowich and Cara Pifko in which Durance’s character marries herself. Durance is Canadian, and shoots Smallville in Vancouver, where she lives with her husband, David Palffy. Last year she starred in The Butterfly Effect 2 as Julie Miller and Island Heat: Stranded as Karina.

She’s also starring alongside Billy Boyd in Ecstasy, a “dark romantic comedy” movie to be filmed in Scotland later this year, during her hiatus from the CW’s Smallville. Ecstasy is based on the 1996 book Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance by Irvine Welsh, the author of Trainspotting.

Last year the Smallville star was named on FHM magazine's list of "100 Sexiest Women in the World" for the second year in a row.
