People say you can't help who you love, and they may be right. Ascribe whatever religious or Darwinian explanations you want, but maybe we are built to love each other unconditionally, and to defend each other even when we know it's wrong. But as Chloe learned last week on
Smallville, when the loved one in question isn't simply a tragically flawed person but a murderous alien superpower you can't expect everyone to be polite and tell you they're a wonderful guy. You have to be prepared for the fact that all of your friends will want him dead.
This Thursday
Smallville returns with the penultimate episode of the
season, "Injustice."
Smallville's CW producers released a new clip from
the episode, illustrating Chloe's big change in direction.
According to the official press release, "Chloe (Allison Mack) returns and
begs Clark (Tom Welling) to kill Davis (Sam Witwer), claiming he can no
longer keep the beast under control. Tess (Cassidy Freeman) has
assembled a team of meteor freaks, including Plastique (guest star
Jessica Parker Kennedy), to track down Davis so Clark can kill him.
However, things get out of hand once Tess' team discovers she is
double-crossing them."
Is Chloe being completely sincere this time? Or is she willing to fool
Clark once again in order to protect the man she loves? From the clip
she legitimately looks scared for her life, filthy and desperate. Maybe
she's finally seen things get out of control with Davis. Maybe he's
crossed a serious line. But with matters of the heart it's rarely that
simple, especially in TV dramas and superhero stories, so I'm still
waiting for the left hook.
Could Chloe have let go of her emotions for Davis so quickly?
Watch Smallville this Thursday night at 8PM.
