The
Smallville universe got a little shot in the arm when news that
Brian Austin Green has come on board as Metallo, that metal-clad villain who's powered by kryptonite. (Which type, I wonder?) What's interesting, actually, is the way they plan to introduce his character in the upcoming season. According to TVGuide.com, John Corben--that's his alter ego, by the way--will be introduced into the series filling in for a missing Clark Kent, presumably because he's gone blurry during the time.
The show's producers are actually having a field time with this casting coup. "Every once in a while, the stars align and allow you to bring a character to the screen the way you originally envisioned," executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders said. "We introduced John Corben into the storyline with Brian in mind, and are thrilled to see him embody this iconic DC villain."
Considering that they had to see
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles canceled,
Body Politic not picked up, and
One Tree Hill dance the fandango, there can only be one explanation for this... stars a-lign-ing! (Or, in the words of Denzel Crocker, "fairy-god-par-ents!")
Apparently, these producers also planned to take back Sam Witwer, after his run as Davis Bloome slash Doomsday throughout the last season. That plan for a multi-episode arc was tossed when the actor decided he didn't plan on returning. Maybe you can say that's another factor in seeing Metallo take shape.
Another question in the
Smallville universe is, well, the prospect of yet another spin-off. (Wasn't it only lately when Laura Vandervoort revealed that there were plans for a Supergirl spin-off?)
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello reported that speculation revolving a spin-off has returned, now that the show is on its ninth, and presumavbly last, season. (You should've sensed that when the CW moved the show to Fridays.) Whose character, then? Crazy thought alert--will the stars really align for Brian this time? Told you, crazy thought.
