Smallville: Preview of Episode 8.7 "Identity"
The folks behind Smallville really need help coming up with clever episode titles.  While Gossip Girl gives us titles like "Pret-a-Poor-J," and Supernatural offers up "It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester," Smallville keeps tossing out one-word titles that make each episode indistinguishable from the next.  This season we've had "Committed," "Toxic" and "Instinct," just to name a few of the forgettable names.  This week's episode is called "Identity," which doesn't tell viewers a thing about the plot.  I know the Smallville writers are capable of less generic fare.  Based on the plot description of this week's installment, I recommend renaming it "The Secret Life of the American Superhero."

"Identity" doesn't tell fans a thing about the episode itself, so I've put together some pictures and a clip to help shed some light on what's coming up this Thursday.

The CW's official description of "Identity" reads: "Jimmy (Aaron Ashmore) snaps a picture of Clark super-speeding to save Lois (Erica Durance) from a mugger and manages to catch a red and blue blur on film.  Jimmy shows it to Tess (Cassidy Freeman) who decides to run it on the front page of the Daily Planet.  Clark fears his identity will be discovered so he asks Chloe to run interference with Jimmy, but she refuses."

The first photo shows Jimmy facing off with the mysterious mugger.  I know there are at least a few Smallville fans who wouldn't mind if Jimmy was mugged and left for dead, but that's obviously not going to happen in this episode.  It looks like the reporter's nosy instincts are going to play a major part in the plot.

Aaron Ashmore

Last week's episode didn't feature any scenes with Oliver Queen, but the next photo proves that he's back in action in "Identity."  Green Arrow may not be wearing his signature color, but that's definitely him jumping off a roof to save the day.

Justin Hartley

The clip from the episode is bound to excite Superman fans.  Clark (Tom Welling) talks to Chloe about Jimmy's picture, but she's reluctant to destroy the evidence.  She suggests that Clark follow Oliver's lead and come up with some sort of secret identity that allows him to fight crime.  Hmm, I wonder what sort of catchy moniker he'll come up with?

The generically titled "Identity" airs this Thursday at 8pm on the CW.
