'Smallville' Fan Columnist: Perry White Returns! And he is Not Alone
'Smallville' Fan Columnist: Perry White Returns! And he is Not Alone
"Don't call me Chief!"

Will Smallville fans hear these fabled words uttered before season's end? Maybe, maybe not. But whatever his words of wisdom--Perry White shall return!

Michael McKean re-introduced the character of Perry White during the third season of Smallville and executive producer Brian Peterson confirmed today that the future editor and chief of the Daily Planet will reappear during the penultimate episode of this, the ninth season.

Considering the last time Perry drove into town he did so drunk and crashed himself into a tree, I am definitely anticipating another grand entrance from the iconic character. I am also incredibly curious about his life and the direction it has taken since that fateful encounter with Clark over six years ago. Obviously he remains an ex-reporter for the Daily Planet. Nor is he yet the editor and chief we all know and love from the established Superman mythos. But what happened to the sensational tabloid journalist? Has he found a greater purpose in life? What exactly prompts his return to Metropolis? These are the questions rattling through my hypercharged brain at the moment.

Speaking with EW, Peterson offered us insight about the development of the character, sharing that he draws even "closer to his destiny" during the upcoming episode. He further revealed that "We finally get to see the legendary introduction between Perry White and the intrepid Lois Lane."

But wait! Have you heard the rest? Michael McKean does not return to Smallville alone--his real life wife joins him. For those of you who do not already know this lovely lady's identity, let me give you a hint: she may or may not serve as a senator. "We're thrilled to have Michael back on the show," Peterson declared, "and to be able to link it with the anticipated return of Martha Kent is just a phenomenal way to gear up to the end of the season."

Yes, indeed--Annette O'Toole's Martha Kent returns from Washington this season with some "unexpected surprises" up her sleeve. What surprises exactly? You tell me. But after three years of motherlessness, I welcome whatever twists and turns Clark's mom might bring our way.

So tell me, whose return excites your more? Perry White's or Martha Kent's? Perhaps you long for another character entirely? Tell us who and why below!
