Life's an adventure. You can be on top of the world one second and beneath it the next. Happiness is precious but one shouldn't let it blind them from the dangers lurking outside their front door.
In the latest episode, "Icarus", Clark and our other heroes are made aware of these dangers as General Slade returns and the VRA targets civilians.
"Lois Lane, Will You Marry Me?"Aw, Clark, I wish you wouldn't be so nervous. She's not going to say no! And if she does, I'll marry you. Well I guess I should stop planning my wedding. Lois may have made it hard for him to ask the question but he got the answer he wanted. It's always nice to see the little girl in Lois come to the surface. Calling Oliver, showing off her ring to the newly hired security team at the Daily Planet, Lois is excited to spread the big news - only no one seems to care. Cat thinks she's expecting and Tess hopes it doesn't interfere with her work. Don't worry, Lois, it's only for show. There's a superhero engagement party waiting for you at Watch Tower.
"Guess the Honeymoon's Officially Over"Well there goes the happiness for the episode. As Clark's new Best Man, Oliver, is leaving the engagement party, he saves a woman from being mugged. That should prove him a hero and not the wanted vigilante, right? Well our boy just has to go after the mugger and, in so doing, he is made to look like the attacker. Hawkman and Star Girl may have gotten him out of the tight situation but the stunt raises Oliver's status from vigilante to terrorist. The government is cracking down on their quest to rid the streets of vigilantes. While they take Tess, Emil and Lois in for questioning, Clark and the rest of the heroes decide to go underground and shut down Watch Tower. "Our lives as we knew them are over."
"So Much For Going Off the Grid"You can take the heroes out of Watch Tower but that's not going to take the hero out of them. Sneaking into Slade's office, Clark runs into Carter and, shortly after, Oliver joins the party. As Carter and Oliver exchange witty remarks while finding out more about Slade's Project Icarus, Clark super-speeds to the Daily Planet to save Tess and Emil. But where's Lois? She found Tess' secret slide and made an escape. Now in Oliver's office, General Slade himself, who is looking for her fiance, greets Lois. Predictably, her loyalty to the Blur nearly gets her killed. But never fear! Hawkman is here! It's mace versus sword and, unfortunately, Slade's sword gets the last blow. As the office is lit up in an explosion, Lois is blow out the window with Carter leaping out after her.
How will they survive that fall? And how did Slade walk out with barely a scratch? "I am beyond Death's stroke now." Slade may think he's won but this soldier did not complete his mission. After sending him to the Phantom Zone, Clark rushes to the street below LuthorCorp where he finds Carter laying with Lois under his wing. Before passing, Carter gives Clark one last word of advice - to always keep that balance. "We can't do what we have to do if there's an emptiness in our heart." Wow, Hawkman, you really are an expert in dying! You know just what to say. We got two super-hero gatherings in one episode, first a party and now a funeral. Someone ought to tell them it's not safe to all be in one place at once. I guess they'll find that out when they wake up from whatever knocked them out in that pyramid orb that rose from the sand.
