Maria promised you
all the information available on Smallville as we wait an excruciatingly long two months for the return of our favorite superheroes and she spoke the truth! So, following her example, I come bearing good tidings of great...Wait, wrong script (especially as I am definitely not an angel), but I do bear news about an angel--one Warrior Angel to be exact.
Last season Allison Mack directed the episode "Power" and
during the Comic-Con panel this past summer she promised us another stint behind the camera. When, you ask? Thanks to the wonderful tweets of the Smallville writing team we now know. The team posted a picture of the cover page of episode 13 "Warrior," which revealed Allison as the director and Brian Q. Miller as the writer. Miller is also responsible for penning the season eight episodes "Committed" and "Bulletproof" and this season's "Echo."
Another character joining the Smallville cast for this episode is Steven Swift, alias Warrior Angel. Though I warn you now: the producers are playing games with us!
Just last week, EW identified this Warrior Angel as the touted love interest of Allison Mack's character, Chloe Sullivan. The actor taking on the role is Carlo Marks, known to Smallville fans for previously portraying Chloe's fiance during the season seven episode "Apocalypse." Interesting, right? Now listen to the tidbit released this week.
EW reports on the reality of a Warrior Angel-Chloe romance using this quote from executive producer Brian Petersen: There's a wink behind it. I have promised that we're going to give Chloe a relationship this year, and rest assured, that was not just a tease. She will have a relationship this year. We'll know [who he is] in 'Warrior.'"
Now here comes the speculation. Assuming Petersen's suggestion of "a wink behind" the Warrior Angel-Chloe pairing indicates a tease by the writers, I have a theory--
a return to a previous theory actually. What if a flirtation between Chloe and this Warrior Angel serves as a wake-up call for another character? You know the age-old story: You never recognize the one standing right in front of you until someone else whisks them away.
So what do you think Smallville fans? Is Warrior Angel merely a catalyst for the 'real' promised relationship? Or are the writers and producers just messing with us? Submit your theories below.
