I rarely support the dissolution of a marriage, but for Jimmy and Chloe on Smallville, I’ll make an exception. On last night’s
Smallville, after being bed-ridden since the Doomsday wedding attack, Jimmy finally showed up once again, only to be treated like a fool. Even fans who love Chloe have to admit that in their relationship, Jimmy got stuck with the fuzzy end of the lollipop every time.
No one believed hi, Chloe embraced a man who has admitted to being in love with her, and Jimmy was drugged and tazed. If that’s not bad enough, the one who tazed him was his own wife, who did it to protect Davis Bloom. It’s pretty easy to see the writing on the wall if that’s the kind of thing happening at the start of your marriage.
So when Jimmy dumped Chloe, I cheered. He’s put up with a lot, and last night’s episode was simply the last straw. As he pointed out (correctly, in fact), Chloe always sides with men other than Jimmy. She supports Clark and would always choose him over Jimmy, which might be understandable given Clark’s alien secret, but it’s inexcusable in a marriage.
A husband and wife are supposed to be best friends, the ones who share everything and always have each others’ backs. To start with, the fact that Chloe thought she could not tell Jimmy about Clark’s secret and still have a good marriage showed a lack of foresight.
But then to side with Davis Bloom and to try and maintain a friendship with him proved that even without Brainiac infecting her, Chloe is only capable of making bad choices in this relationship. For a smart girl, she must be incredibly stupid if she honestly believed that she and Davis could be just friends after he professed his love to her before her wedding.
Those feelings don’t just go away. On the bright side, Chloe is now freed up to hook up with Davis, and even though he’s half evil, he’s certainly better looking than Jimmy. Also, Jimmy is now free to spread his wings and become a bit of a bad-ass. He clearly has a vendetta against Davis, and sending Tess Mercer after him was just a start.
The end of this marriage could be the best thing that ever happened to Jimmy. He’s now free to be his own man, do his own thing, and not feel conflicted about it. Jimmy can team up with Tess without feeling like he’s betraying the woman he loves. For Jimmy, the world is now his oyster.
Now that he's free, who should Jimmy hook up with?
